Gaskets under my jeep hinges ?

I just painted the jeep project yesterday and will be assembling it in a few days after I let the paint dry more. I was planning on cutting out gaskets to put between the sheet metal and the hinges to keep rust from building up under the hinges. Will this help or should I not worry about it ? The hinges are all stainless and the rust pits that were under the old hinges have been taken care of, I just dont want more to start.
Any one done this before ? if so did it work well ?

I used some 1/16" rubber between my hinges and windshield frame. My thinking is it keeps the crap out. You could use an old cut up innertube for this. Kurt used some kind of wax on his...not sure what kind, not car wax, something thicker. Really good stuff. Anywhere there is wax, water is assured NOT to be.

I had my CJ painted in 91. I bought stainless hinges and there is no rust forming under them. I recently removed a hood hinge and the paint underneath is intact. A little polish and you would never know there was ever a hinge bolted on. I think the big problem is that the factory assembled the Jeeps and then painted instead of painting the panels and then bolting up the hinges. Rubber under the hinges may allow movement and rub off the paint. If it does rub it probably wont rust because the rust will rub off too though. It also may be a good idea I don't know.
