Has anybody seen the Gen-Right High Fender kit in use. I got my wife to buy off on my getting another Jeep when I get home in a few months(she feels guilty for making me trade in my TJ and that F*@d just has to go) and I'm caught between another TJ and doing the Gen-Right kit or buying a Grand. I know how well the TJ's do on stock suspension and like the idea of the low COG but I've also been spoiled by my GMC with all the luxury which is where the idea for the Grand comes in but we will be selling the wifes car to get the Jeep and the truck will be her DD. Any info on the Gen-Right kit would be helpfull.

The high fender kits are nice--there is a bit of work involved mounting 'em up naturally, but the results are well worth it. I'll see if I can dig up a pic of an Unlimited we installed them on recently.....

TJs are one of the best "off the shelf" wheelers ever. A high fender kit gives you a lot of options too. It's a bit of work, but a nice way to go. I don't have experience with Gen Right but their products look like quality stuff.

I think it would depend on what you plan to do with the TJ. If you are going to keep it LCG and have very large tires I think they would be well worth it. But if you are not going to run a huge tire and have a normal size lift I think you could get away with the regular tube fenders. Especially for the price between the 2. But that is just my .02

I really do want to keep it LCG, I want to run at least a 35' but I also want to keep it very safe on the road so my wife is comfortable with me putting my daughter in it. Gen-Right has a good pic of an LJ with 35's on stock suspension and it does look really clean, I think if I clock the transfer case and run a flat skid plate, re-gear and lockers it would be set up really good.

I have installed one of the gen-right high line fender kits on a 05 unlimited. In the end it ended up on 40's and sat the same height as a 05 on 35's with 3 inches of lift. We used the inner fender well kit, which retained the inner fender wells, and relocated the battery. I am going to do one on my wifes 01 tj fo sho! The kit moves the wheel well up about 3-4 inches and it moved the inner fender well back about 3 1/2 inches. Just remember that you will have to cut the hood or buy a highline hood to go along with it.

I likey. just my .02

Thanks. I would cut my hood and have it rolled to keep from spending too much money. I don't think the AEV kits or any of the parts they sell for it are worth the price. How long did it take you to do the install? I really like the looks of this kit along with all the body protection it provides, sure beats the hell out of the AEV kit with no protection.

Finally some pics. Not too many, and nothing offroad, but you'll get the idea. This is the one Bob B referenced above.

Yeah that does look awesome, I really like the black side plate. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do it at least I know I'll be happy in a TJ. I like the yellow and black thing going on but my wife would kill me if I ever parked anything yellow in the driveway, I'm gonna try to do a red on like I had before. Thanks for the pics.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. The yellow one above is the one I did the fenders on. It's hard to say how long they took, cause that jeep came in as a front end wreck and everything was all outta whack.. But they really only took me a dayish even though everything was bent. The jeep is down at teraflex right now if you wanna come down and look at it. ILEAN can order you some too if you would like. I would say you should give yourself at least a day or two to remove the old fenders, cut and move all the stuff on the fenders wells and reassemble. Depending on the tools you have available.

I wish I could come take a look but that will just have to wait until I get back from Iraq which won't be for a few months but if it's still around when I get back I would love to have a look.

IMO, the AEV kit looks a lot better. I like the fact that to most people, they would never know you have the kit on. Also, as far as price, it's $200 more than the Gen-Right kit and you get a nice heat reduction hood. So really, IMO, it's a much better value.

I see a lot of guys doing double takes, looking at my AEV Highline, they can tell "something" is different about my Jeep. But can't quite put their finger on it.

I don't need or want tube fenders, so the AEV was an easy choice for me. By the same token, for anyone that either needs or just wants the protection of tubes, I can see where the Genright would be an easy choice. Both companies make top notch parts. A Genright tank is on my list for next year.

Not counting paint, the AEV kit was about an 8 hour install by myself. Very easy and straightforward, even for me, I'm just a very average shade tree type. All the factory stuff just bolts right back in the same places on the inner fenders. I helped a buddy install his a couple years ago, with two of us it only took like half a day.

That black area behind the front fender is what makes it look so obvious. Ditch that and I think it would look much better on the gen right kit. I have a gen right tank and it is well built. IMO if youre getting a tj, an unlimited is the only way to go. and why spend $2,000 in parts and time on a kit if the thing is just gonna fold when to tip it. Get the tubed fenders, it's a no brainer. Unless of course you're just trying to look like you use your jeep.

You nailed it! That's exactly what I was trying for . Actually, I was really just trying to build my Jeep, the way I want to build it, not the way some kids on a website think I should build it, to use it the way I want to use it, not the way some kids on a website think I should use it. Which doesn't include tipping it over.

It's all good though. I had kind of forgotten that I don't post here - thanks for reminding me!

LOL. Don't worry DAA, I'm the same way. I just don't understand why so many people I talk to think my XJ on 31's isn't enough. I don't need Dana 60's and 40's to run the trails I like to run.

Don't sweat it, RME is supposed to be a place where everyone's option is welcome. Some folks just get a bit to carried away with the 'hardcore' attitude. If you're building your rig how you want, don't worry about what others think & say. :)

I really hate to see good people turned away by the attitude that certain folks have. That's not how it's supposed to be, that was never my intention when this place was put together. I'd much rather have people on here get along, than have one group/attitude rule the community.

Like others have said, don't sweat it. Stick around. I've been through just about the entire spectrum of vehicles (from building a buggy, to a YJ on 32s) and at this point, my favorite vehicle is my Tacoma on 32s (I'm actually thinking about going down a tire size :)).
