...I wasn't in college looking for a best friend in my professors. I couldn't care less if they liked me. Why would I want to be a friend with an a-hole anyway? I wanted to get my education and get the hell out as fast as possible. In fact, that's the same reason I hated all the suburban hippies at the U. I didn't give a crap about their protests or festivals, I wanted an education and nothing more...

What was your degree major? When were you a student at the U?

I didn't deal with hippies, protests or festivals? Were you forced to participate in these? Were you in some sort of liberal sciences? Where do these take protests take place? I had classes in the EMCB, Presidents Circle and the Humanities building, I never had a dealing as such? I spent 3 years there working on my degree and have since been back on other projects and leisure classes. Can't say I've ever been caught in a herd of protesting hippies LOL

I went to school with primarily gear heads and outdoor junkies. The U paid for us to build an off-road race car and go compete against other schools. Can't say I'd trade that for many things. I went there for an education and I feel I got a great one, considering the placement of my peers and classmates I feel confident our entire COE did.

Oh, and I'd go to BYU before I dealt with living in NJ :p

Kurt you are so positive and have such an optimistic look on life. ;)I think that is because you are all through. I may feel the same way some day if I ever make it.

I hope you do. Strangely I never felt neglected or cheated in school even when times were tough ("C means continue" ;). I had some hard classes (heat transfer comes to mind) and some rough teachers but overall I really enjoyed the experience and the education. We (the U ME department in general) did really well on the PE compared to other schools, I take that as a sign our program is up there in prepping students. Maybe things have gone downhill a bit since I graduated? I know many of the professors that I really enjoyed are no longer there, Klewicki, Borgmier, Lagrani, all were great teachers. I wish you had Sesek in person, his class was an absolute riot, one of the better classes I had.

Oh ya and having my student loans paid off would make a big difference for me.

Yeah, that did add a little shine to 6 years of school :p

And now I'm considering going back and likely getting back into loans

I grew to thoroughly dislike BYU with a passion playing lacrosse against them... I have never seen such rotten dirty lacrosse playing in my life (played D1 in college back east, playing since 8th grade)... You think I'm kidding...

Go Utah... Sucked to see the ending to that one...

I was at the U for about a year in '90. I was studying Biology and French.

I wasn't forced to participate in Hippiedom but it was pretty much overt. For example, there was a hippy guy in my cell biology course that would sometimes wear a pair of jeans that had ... now stick with me here, it's hard to describe ... the back half of the left leg of his pants completely cut off up to half-way up his butt cheek. Oh, and I'm sad to say that it was impossible to not notice he was going "commando". :ugh:

Another related event... a guy once complained in the school paper that he went into the men's room in one of the buildings and he found two men making love. There was a barrage of complaints over the next few days in the paper against ... the original complainer. Yeah, they were accusing him of being a homophobe, etc. Ok, so not exactly a hippy story but an example of the aggressive liberalism at the U which was eagerly promoted by the hippies. The protests I saw were usually in front of, and behind the main building. I believe it's called the Union Building.

I was probably on the other side of campus from where you studied. Also, you were there much later than I was. I have a U of U ChemE guy working for me and he also is unfamiliar with the hippies and/or liberalism at the U but he does agree with the pompous a-hole professor situation there.

It's true that this is all subjective. Anyway, it's one of the handful of reasons why I transferred to another college.

in retrospect, I should have stayed in Utah. I started a decent career there but it's great to be back here. NJ is everything everyone imagines (there's a reason they call it The Garden, er, Garbage State).

It is usually someone else's fault when you flunk out of school. I didn't finish my degree and it would be nice to blame it on the teachers and such but I can't. The only institution you can really improve on is yourself.

I agree,I barly made it thru high school and needed to be spoon feed at USU, my instructors told me to stop waisting thier time and go apply with the city working on a garbage truck.....

I then realized that was my direction, goin no where fast, so I transfered to SLCC and got started in thier industrial electrical program. A great exsperience.
