Good trails to run and not get fried??

I haven't been to Moab much in the last few years so I'm wondering which trails youd recommend that are hard, BUT perferably a little shaded. We are bringing the kids down so I want to try not to cook all day on the trail. We are all running very capable toys, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I know, but my family decided it would be a good time for everyone to get out of work. So what do you do, can't turn down wheeling.

I was thinking about Pritchett but we'd have to leave early since its a longer trail. I also want to go out to BFE and mess around again always a good time.

we've ran that at night and it was pretty fun, until my buddy burried his truck in a 5' water hole good times though, plus the water might be nice.

on the picture notice where the water line is at on Ryans shirt:D:D

shade is tough to find in moab, but a early morning or late evening run up pritchett might give some shade from the canyon walls. thats what I would do if I was in Moab this time of year. Leave right as it was getting light and try to be back by 11 or noon. then maybe a short evening drive as well.

Green day and lockjaw have trees on them. both short trails. besure to donate to keep em open...

I tried the mid-July wheeling trip years ago. I don't think I would ever do that again. With that said, here's what I learned. Those little fans that spritz water are AWESOME. The earlier you can get out on the trail the better, spend the hot hours at the pool. Be prepared to fry after about 9:30ish-10:00 in the morning. Drink lots of water. Most of all, have fun :D

I used to do mid-summers in Moab very often when I lived closer. Basically I'll repeat what's been said: carry tons of water and sunscreen. Seriously, try to carry at least a gallon per person / day. You get used to it after a few hot trips I suppose. And like some have said, carry a spray bottle with water. It really does help.

I used to go to Moab for 4th of July's. Always very hot but I was always out at dawn and back in to town early. The town is kind of nice as are the trails as there aren't many people around in midsummer so you can quietly enjoy the town, trails, etc without running into a lot of people. I would recommend going into the La Sal mountains. Do Geyser and La Sal passes. Not hard at all but up high and there are great views in all directions. Great places to camp as well that are much cooler than the desert. There are a number of other roads, trails all around the peaks that mostly are easy but very scenic and a lot cooler than the lowland desert. Some lakes as well that the kids would enjoy. Other than the La Sals----Out at dawn and you can run anything but the heat comes on very quickly.

Ditto... I'll never go to Moab again between Memorial and Labor day. Too damn hot and too many bugs (and hippies!) lol But like you said, can't turn down a Moab trip! I bet if I was offered gas money, I would still go. But if I was buying, not a chance. Save my $'s for OCT/NOV and FEB/MAR/APR when it's cooler and actually enjoyable.

I was just there on 6/25 and the temps were in the 70's, we lucked out. I'm going again 7/17 - 7/21 and hopefully it's still mild. The hippies are the worst though.

Last summer I was down there in June (from FL) and I was wearing my MileMarker t shirt with the logo "Abused Worldwide". The waiter at Pasta Jays asked me "Is that some kind of Republican shirt?"

There's not much shade out there but I am usually OK with the windows up and the AC on!

The one good thing about the hippies; I know that the Subways located where they congregate will have Veggie Patties. The Subway in MOAB is the only one in UT I know of that offers this tasty sandwich.
