Well, I finished up my tire carrier and rocker guards, they both turned out good. Here are some pics of my tire carrier (mounted and unmounted) I will post pics of my rocker guards when I get them uploaded.

so what is the pivot? Scott (rockstomper ) told me once that it's just a trailer swivel from the store. I need to build just that swingaway for my blazer. trying to deside on a design. I too am interested in the latch. I thought about a round hitch pin deal. Or a bolt that was threaded into the swingaway but dropped into the bumper.....

The pivot consists of a trailer spindle/ bearings and seal from a trailer supply store here in ogden. It's a 1,000 pound capacity spindle. the sleeve came from rockstomper, Carl and Von hooked it up so I could just by the outer sleeve since I already had the spindle and all. the sleeve was like 15 bucks.

Check out www.Jeepfabrication.com for some cool plans/ideas

heres a pic from there website on the hinge design.

Cruiser Outfitters has built dozens of tire-carriers using trailer spindles over the years. If done properly, they will last forever.

Just the other day, I checked out a dudes bumper that has a tire-carrier/cooler rack on his FJ40, he built it just like the way you did. He was wheelin the crap out of the truck with a full cooler and a 35" tire on back... he smacked the tire really hard on something and actually sheared the 1" spindle... Crazy...

I would say that this is the exception not the rule....;)
