Got a question.

Anyone know an easy way to pull a motor that is frozen and hooked to an auto??
I can't get it to budge and I can only access one converter bolt!!
Pulled the plugs and filled the cylinders with WD. Even 4' of breaker bar won't budge it. I am afraid I will break the crank bolt!!

Just had to do this on a Landcruiser I6 (our FJ55 motor). We needed to remove the bellhousing, but two of the bellhousing bolts lie behind the flywheel, and we couldn't take off the flywheel without rotating the motor to get all the bolts.

We pulled the head, and put a mix of fluids on top of each cylinder (WD, lacquer thinner, etc) hoping it would break the rust/seized motor (had been run out of oil). We let it sit for a week that way and finally we were able to use a cheater bar and the cranksocket to rotate the engine...

What is it on? I know on 727's the tc will slide off the trans and stay with the motor. It's not always easy to get the motor to move enough without pulling the whole thing though.

What kind of motor/trans is it? The convertor will slide out of the trans if the bellhousing is unbolted. It will make a mess, and you have to move the motor farther forward when pulling to clear the convertor- you will have to use a steeper angle to pull it out.

It's a '90 XJ with an auto. I do think the tc will come out, but I REALLY don't want it too!! I just want to drop the other motor in!! Don't want to deal with the fluid and I would have to slide the tranny back to get it off. Really don't want to do that either.

I filled the cylinders with ATF. Let them sit overnight and see what happens....

I don't care about this motor, I have a runner to replace it and another core.
Maybe I'll put some bolts in the dampner and wedge a 6" pipe in there....That should do it. :D Or something will break and I'll land on my A$$.

have you heard of the trick to unsieze the piston.... screw in a connector of some sort into the spark plug hole and pump it full of grease from a greasegun  :D

That would take a hell of a torch! Cranks are thick!
I'll pull the head off and take a sledge to it first! :D
More fun and less burns!

I have one that would easily do the job if you want to borrow it let me know. Maybe less burns but no way more fun.

What if you dropped the oil pan, unbolted all the connecting rods & bearing caps & just left one or 2 on, very loose. Mabey that would relieve enough of the force on the siezed bearings that you could spin the crank.

It should work, as long as the cylinders weren't so buggered up that the pistions didn't move.

Depending on what is seized...I freed up a 22R by knocking the tops of the pistons with a block of wood and a sledge. (rings were rusted to the cylinder walls)

If it's the bearings, Greg's idea sounds pretty good, too. Bobdog's will work no matter what, unless it's the rearmost main bearing that's keeping it from spinning.....but then you could just unbolt that one at that point.

Just start disassembling stuff until the motor comes out, piece by piece. :D

I'm pretty sure it is just rust....It turned over when I parked it. And there was crystalized antifreeze on #3 spark plug....
The pan is a PIA t pull in the rig, I have done it, but a slege just seems more fun!
