Gotta love life in a small town

Downside to living in a small town: Everyone knows you.
Personally I like the anonymity of city life. I don't think that I could ever live someplace that was more than an hour from a major airport. I'm not talking Manhattan, but places like Portland or Seattle are really appealing.

I was born in downtown SLC, I didn't hate it but I was just a kid so what did I know. Moved to Lehi when I was 8 and Lehi was 4,500 and I instantly liked smaller town stuff (I was in the county outside of Lehi with 5 houses in a 1/2 mile radius). Now Lehi has grown to about 568,0000 people and I absolutely HATE it here now.

I absolutely cannot wait to move to Moab. I am soooooo tired of the city.

I remind myself every time I have to run errand into Salt Lake how bad it sucks. Traffic  Congestion  Overcrowding  It just sucks.

Oh yeah having neighbors is starting to be a drag too. We have not had neighbors for 7 years until last year. And they had to go and build an F-ing charter school next door to us last year too.

The city life, I do not want!

My Town...

Every time I hear Montgomery Gentry sing "My Town'' it gives me chills and reminds me of my childhood summers on the farm in Woodruff Idaho, just south of Malad. I have convinced my wife that as soon as the kids finish school that we will move up there. Its so peacefull. All you can hear is cows mooing, geese and other fowl on the river. Man the smeels of fresh cut alfalfa is heavenly. Downtown Malad has no traffic lights. Just one four way stop and sometimes you have to wait for someone. Its also the closest place to get lottery tickets if you are coming from Salt Lake City. Three hours and fifteen minutes round trip for the lotto last time. By the way, the lotto is at 200 million now. Could buy a lot of peace and quiet with that. Hum... Maybe a three hour and fifteen minute break this weekend....

Chad your a good sport :)

I could do without the cow smell, and it would be nice if there was a place to buy shoes here. Most businesses here don't last too long. That's a down side to small towns....

I geuss I really don't care if people know everything about me. I just love the quiet and the peace of a small place.

I don't want to worry about HOA's, Neighbors telling me what my yard should look like, people that won't stop and help.

I know that the years can distort our memories, but all of us that grew up in a small town remember riding our bikes around in the summers. Heck, I would ride for miles. I remember going out in the fields and shooting birds with my BB gun, and tons of other stuff. those things just aren't as available to my kids in a city.

I know that bad stuff can happen in a small town but I still choose to live in a peaceful place.

I grew up in Butlerville (AKA Cottonwood Heights) when the nearest place to get clothes was the Sears at 8th South in Salt Lake. A field trip in 4th grade was to walk halfway up Big Cottonwood Canyon to the power plant.
I have pictures of 70th south when it turned into a dirt road east of about 30th east but of course that was just a few years ago because I'm not very old:rofl:
We also could look downtown from the school playground and see the Walker Bank sign to see what the weather was.
