After pulling the brake master cyl off twice and bleeding it yesterday, I finally found my problem! It was totally my fault... all the bad things I said about Kaiser Willys were wrong. My mistake! While I was bench bleeding the master (again) I noticed that the rear port only pressurizes at the first 20% of the stroke.... from there the front brakes take over. I had the adjusted the rod between the clutch pedal and master cyl too 'deep' and the rod was totally bypassing the circuit that activates the rear brakes.
(To be fair, the directions don't help much at all when it comes to that adjustable rod and where it should be set.... you have to cut it to length.)
Anyhow.... I was able to bleed the brakes, button up a few minor details, put the fenders back on and take the CJ2a out for a little drive. I went the furthest I've driven yet from home.... everything was going great, until I ran out of gas.
I filled the tank last Fall and the gauge was reading 1/2 full... but apparently the gas had evaporated and the gas gauge wasn't working. Quick call to my wife and I had 5 gallons on the way.
Once I had gas, I was able to take a QUICK drive offroad on the rocks and in the dirt! It was so much fun... I had a blast. Can't wait to do it again!
I need to fix up a few things and then on to the LockRite install!
