Gotta plan the kids for the end of the year so you're only paying on them the last couple months. ;)

Still need to do mine... Finally got my last W2 today.

monday at noon. it should all go well. the only time i have ever owed, was when my taxes where done wrong. once by my father and once by HR Blockheads. both times it was discovered 8 months after they where filed.

there is no worse feeling in the world than knowing you owe the government more money than they have already raped you for.

HR Block will not be doing my taxes anymore. i am going to a CPA this year, someone that does this stuff all year. instead of someone who only does this 2-3 months out of the year after a 1 month training class.

Sounds like you make too much money. I don't feel bad for you

Actually, that does suck! I liked when I was in my first 2 years of school, married, and just got into a house. That was a he!! of a return for 2 years!

WE did Turbotax last year and will definitely do it this year too. Caleb, you ought to check it out.
Ya, I did that this year, no rebates and if you use direct deposit it has to go to some bank in CA first for another $25.00. I spent $100.00 this year. I may to buy it again...

I think I spent about $60-70 when I was all done. I just did it online.

I paid my account $400 last year to do my taxes cuz I was self employed. It may sound like a lot of money, but it was worth every penny. Already have an appointment with him again this year.

Have used H&R, Liberty, Turbo Tax, Self Filled, and a few othersl in the past. Never again. Having a good knowledgable accountant is the only way to go. It may cost you more up front, but will definitely, wait let me repeat that, DEFINITELY save you money in the end.

Yeah, thats what I use, I have used Turbotax for the last five years or so...I think it does an excellent job and my taxes are so simple it would be silly to spend more on a CPA to do them.

Really, the only thing that bugs me is the fact that I should be able to file as Married and One (or even two counting my house) and my wife should be able to file as Married and One and we shouldn't owe anything. Yet, we are both paying more taxes and we still owe (not much but I was hoping for a little back :D)...

Is it better to have both incomes file separately, or together? I am the only source of income for our family, so we use married filing jointly. Works out pretty good for us. I have claimed 0 dependants on my W4 though, so they take out bunches.

FWIW, I used http://www.freetaxusa.com this year to file. If your AGI (adjusted gross income) is less than $50,000, you can use them and they e-file the federal 1040 form for free. If you make more than that, you can still use them to e-file for you, but it costs a little. You can also have them file the state form for you for $9.95 if you do the free federal filing. Or you could do what I did and go to http://taxexpress.utah.gov and e-file the state form free there. Combine those with direct deposit, and you could possibly get your refunds in as little as 10 business days.

I filed both forms in less than 15 minutes. It asks you all your information and fills out the forms for you. When you are all done, you can print out a copy of the actual forms you would fill out. Takes all the math out of the equation. Just make sure you have entered all your information correctly.

I am wondering this same thing, everything I read says it's usually better to file jointly...I started running the numbers last night but my program got messed up so I'll redo it this weekend and see how it comes out...
