The wife and I are going to get away for a weekend to St. George, do a little riding and hiking. I'm looking for suggestions for a nice dinner - steakhouse, italian, mexican, whatever. Any ideas?

If you like Japanese steak house type places, the Samurai 21 has "pretty good" food at decent prices and the chefs still put on an old style Benihana style show (which Benhiana chefs haven't done for years - afraid of singing someones eyebrows and getting sued...). My Wife/Kids/Mom/Sisters love the place and I can get us all out of there for about $20 a head. Call ahead to reserve a private table on busy nights though, otherwise they'll sit you around a grill/table with other people.

My favorite Mexican place in St. George has been shut down for awhile (owner died...). Haven't really found a new one yet. Only been to Pancho & Lefty's one time, right after it opened, but I wasn't impressed enough to go back again. Just garden variety deflavorized/americanized/corporate style bland tex/mex was all I got out of it? Service was horrible too - the waiter said I couldn't order chips and salsa and a round of beers until AFTER we had ordered dinner? I was looking to feed a dozen people, half of us were going to be swilling beers, check was going to be over $300, we were all starving and he wouldn't bring chips and salsa for the table while people looked at the menus. Pissed me right off and cost himself at least $20 off his tip... Then the food was nothing to remember either. Nothing wrong with it at all, fine actually, but no different than any other corporate/mexican joint.

Maybe it's got better since then?

Forgot all about that place. Used to go there pretty often when it was still Tora Mora, but I don't think I've been there more than once or twice since it became Don Pedro's - but I would definitely agree it's a good place to go for Mexican. Will have to try and remember it next time!
