Gun for the wife

My wife likes to shoot and has fun shooting, but I can see the nerves in her eyes every time I ask her if a gun is loaded. Most of my handguns have a button here or a lever there or a safety or not a safety. This gun is different than that gun, etc. So she has fun, but she is always nervous and has to think about what she is doing.

My answer was to buy her a revolver. It is hers and only hers. She can decide where to store it, where to store the ammo. She is welcome to store it in the gun safe or in the quick open gun vault. She now has one simple gun to learn; she knows where it is and knows that it will always be where it belongs. It is easy to check if it is loaded or not, if she pulls the trigger and nothing happens she just pulls the trigger again, knowing how to clear a jam or mis-fire is not an issue.

Plus shooting revolvers is fun

My wife Daily carries a bersa.380 and a ruger LCP as a back up. At home she reaches for the youth model 20 gauge pump loaded up with 00 shot. Over the last little while she has decided she would like to get a bigger carry gun like a 38 special or .357. She is very interested in a revolver this time around.

let her shoot some and let her decide which gun she wants.

whatever you do, take it easy with her. It's perfectly ok for her not to shoot (or even touch) a gun the first time out. Don't push her too far too fast or she'll never warm up to the idea. My wife was terrified of unloaded guns. It took us 2 hours to get her to touch an unloaded pistol. Now she carries any of my guns regularly with confidence. But if I had pushed her too hard too fast she would still be afraid of them.

I might just take you up on that graves. I don't know if I could get my wife to regularly carry a gun, but as long as she can just be comfortable with a particular gun, thats all I need. I own a house in Washington state and my neighborhood HOA acting president has a facebook set up so I can see all that is going on in the neighborhood. Sad to hear about all the people that have been messing with stuff or getting their houses broken into in a neighborhood that use to be such a quite safe place. Just read today about a lady that had a guy at 11:30am try to get into her house while she was in it on the phone with 911 watching this guy go around her house trying all the doors.
