H2 Wheels - Protecting the schrader valve

What are you h2 wheel guys doing about your air schrader valves? I about took out my second one this weekend. I have to replace it since the metal part is smashed up. I'm surprised it's not leaking.

I know there are aluminum rings that some people weld inside. I'm not too excited about doing that, just for the fact that I'd have to break down four inner-air-locks and weld on cast aluminum. Are you plugging that hold and relocating? Shorter valves? Tips/tricks appreciated!

what about just tacking a aluminum bung/nut around the stem. I wouldn't think that amount of heat would effect the inserts?

I use A.t.v. style on my h1 wheels they are very short about 1 inch. No problems so far been using them about 12 years. Never gone anyplace special to get them just the tire store.

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
I don't think you would, but never weld to an inflated tire. Dismount the tire or at least remove the valve core. There is some kind of chemical reaction that takes place with high heat and tire pressure. It causes the tire to rapidly increase in pressure until the tire blows up. This happens even after the heat is removed. I think it was Firestone tires that did a nice video showing this. Look for it on Youtube.

I am just running standard size that are on most vehicles... are yours shorter than that? Do most tire shops carry the stubby ones?

I dunno. They are shorter than the ones that were on my old wheels and one of my H2 wheels had a longer one. So maybe they are standard and the others are longer? I would say they stick up about an inch from the wheel. Maybe 3/4. Ill measure tonight.

Bringing this back up. I'm going to find some shorties and throw them in. I took a closer look and I've scrapped up all my valves pretty good and one is starting to crack, again. It looks like they are just getting pinned at the top of the valve so the short ones will work perfectly. If not I'll eventually tear them down and do the aluminum washer guard trick. Thanks for the input everybody!
