Hardcore Off-Road (good for a laugh)

I'll see what I can do... :p We didn't have any Hi-Lux Quad Cabs in Indiana... I'm jealous. Where they solid axle & diesel too? Where'd you serve, somewhere in So. America?

Yup. Solid axle and diesel. We beat the crap out of them and they always came back for more. I think the AP's Corolla saw some off-road time as well. There aren't too many paved roads in the Dominican Republic, especially in places like Mao and Constanza.

that would be my guess or europe?

My dad went too N. Mexico I believe....I am still un-decided about a mission...I dont think it is for me:-\

Honestly, a mission isn't for everyone. I'm not going to try and convince you one way or another, but it should be something that you want to do. I left when I was 20, not becaue I had to wait or because I was forced to wait, but because that's when I was ready. When you decide one way or another, just make sure that it's YOUR decision and nobody else's.

Gotta love mission cars... :p

 Yup, gotta love the 1.0L 3 cylinder Opel Corsa to prevent the missionaries from doing anything stupid on the autobahn... I did prove that the 55 horses could hit 118mph :D (downhill)

I am witness to this. Blue Chevy Cav. and the parking lot across from the Indy speedway. Greg drove it up the concrete part of a light pole, about 3 feet high.

I've wheeled Chevy Cavaliers and Toyota Corollas harder than that... crossing 2' deep rivers, making it up frame-twisters, climbing 2' curbs... (front wheel drive automatic cars will climb a vertical ledge if you maintain traction!) I was known for getting rear tires of the ground, have some pics with the rear tire almost 3' off the ground. :wtf: Gotta love mission cars... :p

Ah mission cars. Someone tried to sell me one in Pittsburgh. They showed up for the car sale from the mission, bought the cars at a steep discount, and tried to turn a quick buck. Their sales pitch was "this car was exclusively driven by pastors from a local church."

In Tunkhannock, PA, the dirt roads outnumber the paved ones 2-1. In the entire county, there were 3 stoplights and 10 police officers (who never patrolled the back roads).

While on the back roads, I honestly can't remember a time when I didn't drift around a corner. Unfortunately, all I had was a Ford Escort Wagon.

When I got home, I was watching the Speed channel, and I saw a FIA/WRC race in Tunkhannock, on the same roads I used to drive every day.
It was awesome. I'd love to go back just to drive the roads again.

When I was on my mission in Indiana we had Ford Topaz's and they weren't near as good off-roading. I damaged mine on-road hitting basic speed bumps :D I did spend some time at that speedway during the time trials before the race but never pole danced in a car

dam! that's hardcore...I guess I should post some pics of the "trail" I took my 35' travel trailer up. I lifted a tire too! I even did it in reverse when the weekend was over and I had to get out!

These guys are goobers! From another thread in the "Off Road" section...

"I'm not even sure what the correct terminology is, but I wonder why we haven't seen here in the ROC any discussion of "lifts" or jacking-up this truck? I mighta guessed one of you hot-rodders would have done this by now???!

"hot-rodders" ha ha!

A "hot-rodder" would never lift a Ridgeline, that's why you've never seen it!

I'm not an active member anymore, but I don't regret serving my two years. It helped that it was in Australia and Papua New Ginuea so I really got to experience some cool things.

As for mission cars, the rage was seeing how many locals you could stuff into the Toyota mini-van that we had in PNG. We did a youth outing one P-Day and we got about 15 people in the back with me and my comp sitting on the front seat bench. Good times. :)

P.S. Wicked funny to hear the spin on that guy trying to sell old-mission cars. I think I would buy a vehicle from Avis or Hertz before I bought a mission car. My buddy served in Albquerque and the hot thing there was jumping em over the little hills created by elevated train-track crossings.

My last months in the mission, I was the mission mechanic  we had a 4wd tacoma truck with no mileage limit. that was alot of fun. we would charge the sisters 10 bucks to open their locked doors (gas money) and we had plenty of that to do.

good times!!!!

isnt this a little bit like pirate? Really I am kinda ashamed...

These are KIDS, who really dont know any better. Beginners rings a bell, a true beginner. These are probably kids who live in a nice suburb, never knew anything about even how to put the 4wd lever into 4wd, probably scared them.

I know PLENTY of people here in the valley who have NO idea HOW to even drive in 4wd low....

really...

The whole... wow those guys are not as cool as me, wow I wheeled that in a Ford Escort... really? Elitist comes to mind... educate, not laugh and make fun of them. They dont have the skill, knowledge or money or time probably to really put in even a 2 inch lift.....

You MUST be joking. These are not old beater trucks like we all learned how to wheel in. These are financed, SELECTED vehicles that the owners did not just happen upon and drop their paper money on. They CHOSE them, for whatever God-forsaken reason. :D

So yeah, they're fair game. If it makes me "elitist" to laugh at someone oohing and ahhing over their awesome vehicle fording expansion cracks and runoff troughs, then so be it. I just happen to believe that the elite drag society forward and out of the troglodytic muck pansies like these Honda fairies would have us wallow in for time eternal.

:D
