Finally had a free day and I felt like I had the Scout up and running well enough to take a little day trip. I decided to head north and see our beautiful state. Of course because my Scout is 38 years old there is always something to do, so Friday night I installed a set of RPT engine mounts and finally was able to get my fan shroud back on, which meant I could finally charge up the AC! Luxury baby!
Saturday morning came and I headed out early with my English Mastiff, Sloane, riding in the back to keep me company. (it was pretty early so she is laying down in the back sleeping in this picture haha)
Of course I needed some ideas of where to go so I grabbed one of my favorite books and my iPad and tossed them on the front seat (bench seat btw, which I found out later does not provide very good support for long days in the seat!)
First stop was to fill the tank and the cooler. I have never taken the Scout out on a long trip yet and so I may have over purchased water and food just in case I wasn't able to drive it off the trail haha. I bought 5 gallons of water and 4 sandwiches and other snack food.
I headed up to the Logan area and was seriously happy with how the Scout was running and driving, pulled Sardine canyon with no effort at all. The only little annoyance was a super high pitched squeak the developed from the rear gate area, solved that by turning up the radio :greg: Stopped at the Sinclair station off of highway 101 to top off the tank and let Sloane out to stretch.
I had decided to head up the Hardware Ranch road and then would decide which trials to take, with my end goal being a raspberry shake on the beach at Bear Lake. So I loaded Sloane up and headed up highway 101, Hyrum is such a nice little town I loved cruising down the highway just looking at all the houses and farms.
I got to the dirt part of the Hardware Ranch road so I pulled over to air down the tires a bit, old school leaf springs make for a bouncy ride :-\
It we so nice to be up in the mountains, the air was clear, the sky was clear and everything on the Scout was working perfectly (except that annoying squeak!!!!)
We headed down the road a ways until getting to a little stream crossing that had a good spot to pull over and take a break and let Sloane wander around. I am pretty sure it was right by the Left Hand Fork trail but I didn't go down the trail to find out for sure.
I love Utah in the summer!
Here is my trusty co-pilot Sloane
I decided to take the Old Ephriam trail and check out the monument to the giant bear, I've never seen it before so it seemed like it was as good as time as any
I stopped when I got the monument and immediately had my manliness crushed when I saw 2 minivans in the little pull out for the monument, so much for my rough and tough adventure in the Scout haha!
After the monument it was pretty quick moving, the rest of the trail is a very nicely maintained dirt road with lots of camping access.
And a couple of pictures from my destination spot.
There is a Scout hiding in this picture
And what a beautiful view after the dusty trail
After I finished my shake I headed home on the highway through Logan canyon. I am so happy with the Scout and the only things that happened during the trip were that super annoying tailgate squeak and by the time I got to I-15 the AC stopped blowing cold which made for a nice hot drive back to Bountiful. (vinyl seats make for super sweaty backs, eeewwwww haha)
Hope you enjoy the pics
