Has this been done?

Has anyone ever like mounted the shackle to a spring of some sort that was welded to the frame? So during flexing this could allow more droop of the spring? I don't know if anyone understands what I am saying but just wondering. I think this might be a pretty interesting idea.

yep. more drop through buggy leaf is old hat. whether or not it is worth the time and effort is still up for debate...IMHO it is not worth it.

Hmm, so it has beeen done. Anyone have some pictures of what it looks like, im just curious. Hey spence why wouldn't it be worth it? It doesn't seem like it would take very long to do. And do you buy the bugy leafs or whatever or just somthing cut from the junkyard?

it goes into what people call un-useable flex. it just helps you win ramp travel contests. a balanced rig is one that flexes equally and evenly front to rear.

the buggy leaf just gives TOO much droop. This goes along with double shackles, revolvers, expanders. I have a set of double shackles and they are pretty much worthless. They just contribute to bouncing and spring wrap.

if you do something like that, I would probably rig a center limiting strap. buggy leafs and revolvers etc. tend to unload on climbs--especially unevenclimbs. just observation as I have never driven a leaf sprung vehicle.

If you do that, don't weld it. Use a plate and center pin to secure it to the frame. I saw a spring that was welded to the frame and broke off at the weld because to the twisting and binding placed on the weld.

Get a Locker and learn to get used to lifting tires, if thats your problem.

I had Double Shackles (Similar in effect to a Buggy Leaf) and they were a total gimick. They look cool when you're not needing the Traction, but they seriously make my Rig handicapped when I really needed to do some climbing.

So basic oppinion is that they mess up the rig rather than help it? I don't really understand how the buggy leafs would make it harder to climb, wouldn't it keep all wheels on the ground better? But yah I do have a problem with wheels in the air, I have IFS what do you expect. Anyone have a detroit rear for a 4cyl toy picup 1994?
Thanks for the response. I wasn't really considering this but I though it would be kindof interesting to see. So no one has pics of it?
