Hell's Trails Delta

There was a group of wheelers in Delta to run the Hell's trails last Saturday the 11-24-12. Our intent was to run New Helldorado and Hell's Backbone. What happened was that we ran New Helldorado and ended up working on a new area that has been under consideration for the last seven years. This area was thought to be too extreme to get through. Progress has been made and this may be the most difficult trail in the west. It is the most difficult in the Delta area. I would rate it at 10+++. Another outing to this area will be made in the future if anybody is interested. A name is needed for this trail. Some suggestions so far are the Dark Side, Angels Pass, and the Cul-de-sac. Feel free to post up some appropriate names or volunteer for the next run. Sorry no pics, some other people may have some.

Craig thanks for letting us (Sean, Ron and Families) tag along. Those trails are amazing. Sorry we had to bail a bit early once that sun set the kids got cold real quick. I would have to agree that new one is way hard. I will have to give it a go next time when I don't have the kids with me.

Hope to give these trails a try some time gotta love the school trust land. where a man can be free to enjoy the land without fear of getting in trouble for running over some precious milk vetch weed or rag weed. that is good for nothing but making a person experience allergies. Dont get me wrong I am not intentionally trying to kill vegetation in a delicate eco system I just dont think that every inch of the state has to be so untouched. I think its great there are still a few places like this that can be explored and enjoyed without fear of losing them because some nut case thinks we are going to wear out the rocks or dirt. just my little rant.

Right on, excited to hear there are some new legit hardcore trail options down that way

Fwiw Lions Back, Dump Bump, Proving Grounds, Lower Helldorado, etc were all State Trust Lands. Some were sold (Lower Hells) but the majority were closed as OHV's "detracting from the future real estate value of the property". So while SITLA lands are often a bit more lax, they are not the silver bullet for the OHV community, just as soon as there is a more valuable use or bidder, they are as good as gone :(

What Kurt said on SITLAs.

Craig, let me know when you go back out to work on it. I'd love to come out and help if the timing works out.

The terrain down there is just wicked... I love it. Its def a great place to become more familar with from my perspective, but no coordinates, trail signs or trail maps lends itself only to a small group of people being able to enjoy it... I'd like to see the trail first hand before coming up with a potential name, so lets do this!!!
