What would you pick, and why?
Between those two, I would choose the M8000. In fact, I
did choose the M8000 back when I bought my winch.
I don't like Warn's new web page layout. In the old days, it was very clear that Warn divided their winches into three primary categories: Standard Duty, Premium Series and Ultimate Performance. Compared to the Standard Duty models, the Premium Series received numerous upgraded internal components and improved water resistance... and compared to the Premium Series, the Ultimate Performance models were upgraded further still.
My initial plan was to buy an Ultimate Performance model--specifically, the 9.5cti. I made this decision in summer 2012 but I didn't have the funds at the time because this model was priced above my initial winch budget. Next spring, I was finally ready to pull the trigger... only to learn the price had risen
another $250 since last summer. So much for that plan. At that point, I decided to stay within my original budget. I considered the VR10000 for a brief moment; after all, it has more peak capacity for a similar price, right? However, I quickly decided I would rather have the upgraded hardware and increased durability of the Premium Series. For under $600, I felt the M8000 was an
extremely good value.
I still feel this way today. For anyone shopping for a winch on a tight budget, I always suggest the M8000.
