You might find a 4-door short bed f150 a few years old with the 5.0 or maybe even the eco boost in that price range, we have both in our extended family and they have had zero issues with them.

Thanks, I'll give it a look. I had a 2000 f150 and it seemed just okay. But it was a beat up fleet vehicle before I bought it, so I maybe haven't had a fair evaluation of their quality.

The 5.4l in my '01 gets 15 mpg mixed on stock size tires.

I don't blame you for not liking your '00. I've had two trucks with that miserable Ford torsion bar IFS and it's been my least favorite part of both of them. They went to a proper coil suspension in ... '04? Something like that. I'm sure Dutchmans' truck rides much better than mine.

I'd take an '08 to '11 F150 supercrew in a heartbeat. Not impressed with the 5.0: lots of top end, and about the same mileage as 5.4, but suckish when driving up dirt roads. Even though it has 2 more gears, it was NEVER in the right one. Just finished putting 100K on an '08 for work and loved it.

my dream is to do the same thing as you someday, except ill keep my big truck too. lol. I would kill to have a chevy colorado or the gmc canyon. I rallyed these things a lot on my mission and they where awesome! I loved them. I especially love them because some of them came with a 5.3 ls v8! The church never bought any to the mission (for good reason I suppouse). Thats a lot of motor for a little 4x4 truck. There is quite a bit of aftermarket suppourt and people doing all the crazy mods on the interweb already with these things also.

The only truck I would ever want as a driver more than the colorado is the Hummer H3T Alpha. It came with the 5.3 ls V8, 4:1 transfercase, and stock with 33's. I just drool, but chances are Ill never find one, and if I did I probably wouldn't have the money.

I love my Eco-boost. I have never gotten below 10mpg pulling hard loaded down to Lake Powell. I average 16.5mpg with the tires I have on it. When it had the stock size I got closer to 18. I drove to St Gorge Tuesday and got 18.3 averaging nearly 80 mph and burned less than 1/2 tank. What I really love is when I push my foot to the floor the thing has some power. You don't hear the noise of the motor or exhaust, rides really nice and is fun to drive. I will be selling it soon for a 2015 Expedition with an Eco-boost. My last F150 was a 2009 with the 5.4 and my new one is hands down better. I drove the new GMC today and was not impressed, love the looks of them but didn't like it as well as my F150. If I was going to get another truck, the Eco-boost would be it I would like to drive the new 1/2 ton Dodge diesel but they would of had to improve the interior quality a ton for me to go that route.

Had plenty of power, just didn't have the load capacity

Was yours the trd sport or the trd off road? (I thought you had the off road but only saw it once I think, so may be wrong). In my '13 trd off road, I've had two bikes in the back many times and never had any problems at all, in fact I've had two bikes in the back and two on my trailer with four guys in the truck and didn't have any problems with sagging. However, their suspension is soft. Throw some landscape rocks in the back and it only takes a couple before you're on the bump stops. With that said, I love my Tacoma, wouldn't have any other truck even if I can get an "American" made for half the cost. I loved my '03 and equally love my '13. Sometimes I prefer the first gen body style because they are so narrow, but can still comfortably fit four adults if needed. I love the power of the current gen Tacomas though. I currently get around 18-19mpg, and I'm often driving it like an ass :D

I'll have to go drive an 08+ f150. Thanks

Wait...WTF? There I was knocking doors like a chump when I could have been rallying trucks all the time? I went to the wrong mission.

X2 on the H3T, that looks like a sweet truck.

Has anyone else rallied (or just driven) the canyon/Colorado? They seem great on paper, but sales seemed to be low on them, which gives me pause...
