Problem with HP is their warranty and 'throw it away and buy another FROM US' attitude. With thier tech support, everything is a Window's problem and they will fight to prove that before offering support. Sony is as bad, but they would just rather not fixing it. Toshiba is much better. Gateway is ok, if you can get through the language barrier of India tech support. Dell is no questions asked and they actually want to fix it right the first time. To me, that is all a no brainer, Dell all the way.
hmmm, must just be the difference in the person calling. I've never had a single problem dealing with HP, they've never tried to pass the buck or anything. However a Dell that we had recently bought had a bad drive out of the box and Dell didn't want to do anything about it. We eventually got it replaced but it was a PITA, changed my mind about Dell. To this day I can call Dell and still get tech support you can't understand. So maybe they got rid of India but they must have just imported the Indians to the U.S. :D

No, you are just calling T/S located in the South (like Alabama)

Exactly. And for some reason they are really hard to understand. I think they also have a call center in Texas and newly SLC. I can't remember the name that is contracting it though... It's out off of 201, in West Valley?

I've never called, I'm just going off of what their customers said to me when I showed up to repair their brick.

...And I find it hard Dell wouldn't fix a dead PC out of the box. There has to be more to the story... Like you wouldn't help troubleshoot it over the phone with them or something like that. Even if you know it's dead and you designed the dang thing, they still want to troubleshoot it over the phone and if you don't, then the conversation is basically over. This used to drive me up the friggin' wall. Here I am, Dell certified on almost everything they make/sell - including their plasma TV's - and I'm put through this crap. On top of that, they wanted me doing 6+ calls a day, including emergency 2 hour server calls and driving around.

Having a dead one out of the box is ok... I had large customers ordering thousands at once and out of that only having 10-20 dead PC's. Less than a 5% DOA rate, not bad with electronics. And it wasn't necessarily they wouldn't work period, but maybe no sound or bad mouse or... Remember, computers are more likely to fail when powered on...

Buy Dell dell desktops, they're the best, I've owned some of each and they're all Dell now (130). Laptops buy Toshiba, they're more durable and more reliable the the Dells, (the toshiba tecras are manned by toshiba, the satellite line is mfrd by HP) I just bought 20 new Dells with 1G meme 120 G disks and 17" monitors for $499(shipped) ea. I get a wicked discount from Dell.

Their laptops are good, but not as good as a Sony or Toshiba. However, with a warranty it's all moot anyway and to me, it's all about the warranty. And becuase of Dell's outstanding warranty, my last four laptops have been Dells - CP, C840, D600 and now D820.
