Help Me Speed Up My Computer

So my computer is pretty slow these days. I ran across a "clean up" program called RegCure. I downloaded it and it scanned my computer and found 946 errors! Now they want me to pay $30 for the update that will clean out the bad files and such.
My computer seems normal except for the internet. I can't watch video's without pauses. I checked my internet speeds, they were like 288 kbps and 1800kbps. Is that normal for Comcast? Should I buy this program to clean up my computer? Any other ideas.

I know computers as well as most people know their cars!

Never pay or rely on random downloads to repair or speed up your system. Most are scams, such as the one you have.

The best thing you can do to speed up an xp install is to do a fresh format / install. Back up all your important files onto an external drive first.

If you have comcast, your internet speed should be much better than that. Your's sounds more like DSL.

Registry cleanup programs have some value, but chances of it actually having a noticeable impact is really small.

Too many questions unanswered. What is your processor, how much RAM do you have? Do you have any programs checking for viruses or spam? Expecting an old computer to run fast is like expecting a Dana35 to be stronger with better axle shafts. True it is a little stronger but as some of you have put it out there, it just polishing a turd. How old is this computer?

If everything is newer and its slowed down, do what Herzog suggests and reformat your harddrive.
