How would a transmission be cheaper than a hand throttle, which might be given to you, or you can even make one out of bike brake cables from the bike shop dumpster. (i've found a lot of good stuf in there btw) hehe

Yeah, I was just kidding:D

I'll check the bike shops -- hopefully I can find one with a cable long enough.

Has anybody bought any of the "kits" like the ones from Rubicon Express http://www.rubiconexpress.com/dynamic/mainpage.asp?folderid=785 or Rosser Jeep? Do they have a bracket to secure the throttle end of the cable housing, or are they just basically the same thing you'd find at a bike shop?

I like burning out my clutch doing the 3 foot pedal dance. Fun stuff eh?

Buying new gears soon so hopefully that will solve my problem... If not I'm gonna buy the rubicon express hand throttle, it's pretty cheap and comes with everything.

I finally picked up the hand throttle from supergeper, and I love it although its still not on my truck. It looks cool. What brand is that caleb? Its a real simple design. Another question I have is how you got it to work while its on the shifter. Wouldn't when you shift make the wire move around and not be tight then in other gears be tight and pull on the gas?

thats the rubicon express hand throttle...and no when you shift it wont make a difference...one other thing I was gonna tell you is that if you need to you ran run it throgh a hole in the firewall instead of going all the way down the shifter and on top of the tranny...I have run it both ways and both ways worked fine...

I've got a thumb/shifter style throghtle, witch I like a lot because I can not only use it when I need that third foot, but I can also use it as a cruse control (very carefully, you don't want to forget its cinched down and will not budge no matter how hard you press on the breaks in an emergency).

The way it is set up it can manipulate the full range of the throghtle, whereas a break lever or something like that may not be able to open the throghtle entierly.

I also installed a switch to bypass the clutch switch so I can use the starter to move, but i have yet to find an efective use for it. The reason I installed a switch insted of just hardwiering it is because being the absent minded person I am, I am afraid I'll leave it in gear one time and send my zuk headlong into a car/pole/brickwall.

hmmm. well i thought about the whole hand throttle thing, but i realized that i really like to have both hands on the wheel when i am doing some serious crawling. especially in the sami cause the steering is a work out. that is a big deal i think. when i am up really steep in the sami i pull up the e-brake with the button pushed in, until i get the clutch out and start moving. i would rather use that, when i absolutely have to... then buy a stupid hand throttle. i would rather spend money on mountain dew.
just thinkin, hopefully it contributes.

Thats what I would like about it too.. Using it as a cruise control for my rides to and from Moab... You gotta show me how you set yours up when I get mine, probably won't be for a while though...

I like your avatar! That's cool! :)

XJ_Punk also has a good point, I do like having both hands on the wheel when crawling, but it all depends on the terrain... On really hard stuff that I am concentrating on (yeah yeah make fun I use brain cells when wheeling! :D ) I have both hands on the wheels, makes me feel like I have control over my Jeep, but on stuff that isn't that bad I only use one hand. Maybe you could lock it into a certain RPM and use it that way and if you need to hurry and crank it up or turn it down if you're smooth! :D

actualy, the last thing you want is to lock the throghtle in at any position when doing anything but freeway. I have found that the transition from thumb to foot to be pretty much seamless, as soon as you let off the break, you foot should naturaly move over to the gas anyways, allowing you to move you hand back to the wheel.

Believe me when I tell you, when you install a hand throghtle, you will wonder how the h311 you survived without one.
