Thanks to Don B here for the map and tips on running these trails. Here's a trip report I did for another forum I am on about our day in Hog Canyon,

After spending most of Wednesday night and all day Thursday swapping out my seized engine for the new one I found at Dixie 4 Wheel drive (see the story in this thread : http://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/grampas-jeep-on-milts-mile_topic34784.html ), we spent the whole day Friday at the Hog Canyon OHV trail system just north of Kanab, Utah. Kanab is south and west of Moab. Here’s some photos and videos. I took most of the videos myself while driving with one hand and holding camera over the windshield with the other hand so I didn’t get much of the more difficult terrain because I need two hands to drive. And what I did get doesn’t look quite as impressive in the videos as it does in person, and the scenery is quite amazing and that doesn’t always come through either.

I tried to take some scenic pictures, but Grampa’s Jeep kept jumping in for a photo bomb.

.

This is a little rock face that we are about to climb.

Looking over the edge at the town of Kanab below.

We found these interesting spires along the trail. The kids had fun climbing them and so did the jeeps.

More cliff edge posing.

More Hog Canyon

This is a short clip of the typical rock climbs we encountered.

Here’s a longer clip of riding along the trail. I tried to get some of the views, but once again I was driving with one hand and holding the camera with the other and sometimes that cliff was pretty close.

A great day in Southern Utah with Grampa’s Jeep. The new engine was AWESOME!

Cool Pictures... You may want to remove the videos/pictures climbing the pinnicles (inbetween the two spires) There have been signs there in the past that indicate its "not part of the trail and to stay off' I think vandal's have removed it - but it may give someone ammunition to criticize.... Someone can correct me if its "open"

I was there last Friday - but we did different trails :)

Hello,

Nice pictures and magnificent landscape also.
I here there is still the snow and the trails are still closed.
Another good month and for some trails, not before June.

At one time there were barricades at the pinnacles put there by an overzealous BLM employee we had at the time. The local BLM people don't seem to be too concerned about it. It's debateable whether the pinnacles are actually part of that trail or not. We were supposed to have a new management plan for the Hog Canyon SRMA but after seven years it's never happened. We were trying to get a lot of things clarified as well as some closed trails open again and some new things opened up. I've given up working with the BLM, the ATV'ers seem to be able to do whatever the hell they want, the full size 4x4 people that put all the work into the trail system seem to be the only ones that got screwed.

Don, thanks for all you and others have done in Hog Canyon and elsewhere so that us northerners can just come there and have fun, and we really did have a fun time that day. A beatiful place with fun trails at all levels of difficulty. Thanks again for the tips and the work.

Stan from Ogden.
