Really depends on the season of course but it can be warm down there starting ~March, super hot late June-August and cooling down again in the fall. Are you planning to do Hole in the Rock Road or the Hole in the Rock Trail?

Lane, I'm game, I have wanted to make that run for a long time. We just to need to make sure we know what the ferry schedule is so we can take off from BullFrog. Jesse and I wanted to run it last year for the Safari.

We need to look at some dates that will work for all of us. I can schedule most anytime (hopefully an off weekend for racing), I need to see when Shane is going to be off work, will let you know.

Having to have never done this trail, I have a question on how many days to plan to do it. I was thinking about 4 days (3 nights), 1 causal day to get there (from the SLC area), 2 days on the trail and a day to come home. Does this sound about right?

2 days proper is not enough on the trail (if you plan to relax a bit).

Leave SLC early am, catch one of the early afternoon ferry's and get a couple of hours into the trail. Day 2 & 3 on the trail, day 4 a reverse of Day 1. Completely doable. There are dozens of threads and information on HITR on ExpeditionUtah if you are interested, hikes, other things to see in the area, etc.

Russ, I looks like we have two weekends this spring that will work for us. March 12, 13, 14,15 and May 21,22,23,24. March is still a little cool with a average temp of about 50, May would be nice with an average temp of about 70. Get with Jesse and talk it over.

In looking at information on ExpeditionUtah.com, the trail through Lake Canyon is washed out and there is a new trail. When I look at the .kmz on Google Earth it look like there is a new route around the washout. Does anyone have information about the washout and is it passable or do you need to take the new route?

The washout is no longer passable, you must take the new route. I made the trip last Spring on the new route and it was easy enough. I did want to see Lake Canyon though, maybe next time I'm out there I'll make the trip out & back.

About when does the weather get warm enough at Hole in the Rock for a good (shirt sleeve) overnight trip?

I have been down three times in the spring and twice in the fall the spring can be very unsettled as far a weather. Twice we had bad wind storms that did not make for a fun time. That was late march and early april just before and after safari if you go in the spring I would wait for later april. Also last I heard the ferry price has gone up, for me it wasn't worth it for what little time it saves.

Thanks for the information, May is looking better and better...
