Last week I special ordered some black "rock crawler" style rims for my Tacoma, they showed up as planned, cleared my caliper and looked great. I took the rims and tires to my local Big-O, and came back to pick them up an hour later. To my surprise, one of the rims has a tiny hole on the shell. It look like they never finished welding the rim together (the hole is where the two welds meet. I can't re-order another rim until Monday so...

Do I weld the hole (will destroy the powdercoat around it)...

Patch it with rubber?

Silicone?

Thoughts?

I would get some of that silicone they use on the SEMI tires. That stuff is pretty hardcore. If you can, I would just slap some JB weld on the inside and call it good....or can you get the tire off?

I have the bare rim, the tire guy hurried and pulled it off for me so I could get it figured out. They didn't advise for or against any solutions... Mabey I will call around this morning and see what people recomend. I thought about JB weld too, I'm sure that would hold up.

So I took the grinder to the hole, just enough to get some weld down and a place to clamp my electrode. I put a damp rag on the opposite side.. Turned out great, I just got done putting on the tires and no leaks... Still kindve pissed they sent me a faulty rim, and they have a "warranty" that ends as soon as they are mounted, regardless of their workmanship...

Black rims are the best, scatch um, weld um, whatever then all you have to do is hit it with some rattle can black and as good as new.
