Hood vents

I need to remove some of the excess heat in my Commando's engine compartment so I don't roast so much. I have been looking at hood vents and see that there are lots of options for the kind you rivet on but have also seen where some machine shops can punch vents in your hood. Has anyone done that and if so was it a lot more money than the pre-made vents ? do they work better ? Any thoughts ?

I don't have any experience with punched louvers, but I have used stainless steel vents made for boats bolted into the hood. They can make a noticeable difference in underhood temps.

Louvers look bitchin', but are kind of labor intensive. I louvered a 65 GTO hood once, not difficult work but a lot of it. I like those bolt-on panels. You can vent your inner fenders too.

Genright has the best bang for the buck with polished aluminum and black colors. The quality is great with sturdy material thickness.

But stuck more often.
If you like the idea of louvers built into your hood, give Lockhearts a call. They are a speed shop on 1300s and main or state. Mark has a stamping machine there that will make it look great.
