...White is probably too hard to keep clean.. that's my guess.

:p

And blood is a lot less noticeable on a dark color... :eek:

Definately be nice and understanding, and don't treat your patients like they are idiots. Even though they probably are, pretend they're not. :D

I'll tell you that in all of nursing there is nothing that beats a competent, profesional and caring nurse who knows what to do when but can still comunicate on a personal level. I know that they teach you all these great things in school and that you have to chart on the same lingo that they teach you but when talking to a patient communicate in a manner that they can understand. After the physcian explains things most generally it is the nurse who will have to break it down so they are not scared you know what.I have been a nurse for more years than I can remember and in all that time I have never once not enjoyed taking care of the people and helping comfort and ease their pains,no matter the age. Employers are a different story, but if you remember that you are there for the patient, then you should have a great career. Are you looking at a 2 or 4 year school? The best of luck and if I can answer any questions please give me a call, my wife and I are both nurses so between us we can probably get you an answer.

Not bitchy....be patient with patients. Answer their stupid questions as if they were good questions. Be understanding when the new first-time father is a little bit over-protective of his new little dude. :D

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

too true.....

Having had WAY more experience with nurses than I ever expected to, the only thing I can add to what's been posted is to have the interns come into the room with either the doctor or the nurse (I.E. someone that knows what is going on). {I was just about a newspaper article at LDS hospital about 9 years ago when my wife was in there.----Headline: Husband throws group of interns out 3rd story window one at a time.......}

WATCH ER the show on nbc right now! they have scenes with are state prison in it and some of park city :D be nice and friendly and very helpfull

They were just filming it up here last week, had a meeting with the producers in fact. They had to stop filming and shoot another take anytime a PD or FD vehicle passed in the background, since it was supposed to be Colorado and not Park City.

End hijack.

So here's my question to you. Why don't they wear the cool little white hats with the red crosses on them anymore? Also, why don't they wear the little white outfit anymore?? Or did they ever???

White is probably too hard to keep clean.. that's my guess.

:p

My guess is that either the red cross copyrighted the red crosses on the white background, or that the nurses didn't like wearing them. But I'll have to look into it for you. As for the little white dresses, the BYU nursing school had them as their nursing school uniform up untill the late 60's-early 70's I think. I think they're cute and I would totally wear them! In fact, I'm pretty sure they still do somewhere out there.... as for now, though, I'll be plenty happy just to be able to wear the white top and navy blue bottoms with the student nurse patch on my sleeve! ;) :p ...that is, if I get accepted into the program... keep your fingers crossed!

BTW... anyone on here an english major? I need some help proofing my essay. :)

One more tip... Be nice with needles. :eek: I was in the hospital last night and they had to run an IV and that was a huge ordeal. She tried three veins before giving up and calling another nurse in. But to make it worse she kept moving the needles around trying to get the vein and now I've got bruises everywhere, and the spot she tried in my left hand has a blood clot/bruise the size of a nickel and hurts. :( Then, to top it off, the second nurse was finally able to find my vein, but when she did blood squirted everywhere. :eek: :eek: I hate needles as it is, and having to be poked and proded four times and then having your blood spilled everywhere is not a pleasant experience. :( Moral of the story: Be nice with needles!

I'll do my best with the needle thing.... I have some experience with needles because I sew... not that it'll help or anything. :ugh: Any chance you were dehydrated? What happened? (and tip: next time that happens, request a NICU nurse or someone who works in the dialysis department!)

Yeah, I was very dehydrated. I hadn't eaten for about a week or so. I'd been trying to drink but obviously I wasn't drinking enough. :( NICU nurse.... I'll remember that. Thanks for the tip.
