I like Rat Rods too, but I like the Street Rods More, I like a more finished looking car, but those Rat Rods are bad ass also!

The whole rat vs traditional vs street rod thing kind of irritates me. I am gathering parts for a "rat" 27T pick up. But it will be anything but a POS. Just because it won't have a $$$$ paint job, does not make it a rat. Most likely it will end up being POR15'd and left....But it will be 4 wheel disc, reliable motor and drivetrain, and a tube chassis. I want it reliable and safe to take on road trips....
Just because something is not "traditional" or Boyd'isqe does not mean it is a rat.... They are all still hot rods!

OK, sorry, that was my soapbox for today, i'll shutup now.

I agree with that, and needing to be some what schooled in the whole defination of what makes a "Rat" a "Rat", and a "Street Rod" a "Street Rod" this is Good stuff! I really Hate Boyd Though, talk about the need for a shoe horn to release ones Over inflated head, from ones ass! Bling Bling paint and chrome is for show, give me clean paint job and some detail, or a POR15 nice and flat and some moto with go and I am a HAPPY MAN!

I don't know the definitions either. BUT I have been around some of the guys who build rat rods as well as street rods here in SLC, and I am always impressed by what I would call rat rods and how they are in a constant form of transformation. Every time I would see them the owners had made a couple more body changes and reprimed them. It was really cool, and you can't do that with an expensive paint job.

in my opinion. a rat rod is bare bones, all the work done yourself at next to no cost. do what ever you can to get it as low to the ground and as fast as it can go, without spending any money on it. use what you got, find what you dont have free or stolen or traded. paint job??? who has money for a paint job. rattle can it or just leave it rusty.

my little brothers are building a couple of cars. mark is building a 28 model A sedan. chris is building a 27 model T modified. i will post up some pics as soon as they send me some.

Yep, pretty much how I see it, but there are those out there that think a "rat" is a old stock frame, almost falling apart, no front brakes and a 20-30's rear end....Basically unsafe!! There was one like that up at the Logan show, very scarey!

Build what you want, they way you want it, with the means you have, and enjoy it!!!!

on that same note then when Foose builds a street rod or show car it should be considered a rat rod...its what he wants and with what he has :D

I found a an old Studebaker sedan. I would stay Stude just because. That and it would good next to my 55' If I built one it would have updated suspension etc. But I would leave it just primered and ratty lookin... ;)

I respect Foose a lot more than Boyd. Foose is creative and does cool stuff. Seemed to be a cool guy at Supercrawl.
