How do you keep wheeling fun?

to see the look on their faces when they say "You're not going to go up THAT!?" Then you do it and it's the coolest thing they've ever seen.

There it is in a nutshell. This thread wasn't saposed to be about "ME" it was saposed to be about "US" as a community. I am not only not burned out, top of the food chain, or hot sh!it in general, but I am just starting to REALLY have fun.
Im testing my rig in different ways.
I am not really afraid of breakage (knock on wood)
I am getting to take the lines I want and usually make it.
If I don't make it (rattlesnake) then I still pucker REALLY BAD (ask shawn) BUt it's really fun to play with what I have.

It's just that there are several of us that are built fairly tight around here (sukas stuff???? I dunno) and it just seems that on stupid places like POR it's an EGO thing to have the biggest fawking rig with the best stuff. Then they run **** on newbies that want to start building there rigs. Where is the fun there? I took a hard line last weekend on the rattlesnake bump and the pass (91 stock truck) was the picture geek. I told him I needed to take the FAR right line. His jaw hit the seat and he . I just laughed, it was great.

So lets turn this Q around a little I guess, now that I have your attention.
For the people who have been wheeling for 4 years or more and or have a decent rig, what keeps it fun for you?
Some have answered.

BTW blacksheep blindfolded at the rodeo was WAY interesting LOL

those guys on pirate, I dunno, they are all so negative. I posted a pic of my Jeep on there and they just picked it apart. "you need this and this and this, oh and you better get this before you post any pics on here, come back when you are cool." I definitely hate the 'tude over there. I hope they are different on the trail, because they sound like a bunch of a$$holes. This board is Better in many ways, it may not have as much archive, but it hasn't been around as long, and the focus isn't on building the ultimate money pit. the focus here is on wheelin.

First of all Why do you have to have a decent rig and what is a decent rig?
I have a rubicon that did great in moab in all honisty I have had more fun in some of the other "less built rigs" Ive had but there is a line I havnt enjoy my self when I think im going to break some thing and dont have the means to fix it. but I also enjoy my self less having to find a way to get my none licenced vehicle to a place that is actualy challanging for it. Trailering it, haveing to have a vehicle to pull it, a trailer, an on and on. I think we have lost the hole point of this sport. But I think that alot of you are on to some thing also. Showing, others how to do it take a newbie to your faviorite place, going somewere you havent been before.
Im not critising any of you or pointing fingers just to only use your 4x4 for rock crawling is ok for testing designs and your new parts but to do it exclusively is just that borring. IMHO

I don't think anyone uses there rig exclusively for rock crawling, we all enjoy cruisin a dirt road at higher speeds, and mud is always fun, though a bit messy. There is alot of focus on rock right now because it is very challenging anf the risk can't be high in terms of damage, therefore more exciting.

Im in the 4+ years of hard core wheeling club. I have gone through a couple of phases where wheeling just wasnt fun....NOT!!!!!!
I dont run the badest rig. I never will. I like the challenge of running my narrow track cj 8 with 35" tires on the same trails as the Guys with his 39.5 tire, 60 axles, streched wheel base, bla bla bla....
Every time I start getting an attitude I end up spotting for Steve in a comp and realize how much I have to really learn....
I love this sport cuz its still so new and always changing. If stuff gets to simple for ya borrow the wifes vehicle or use the tow rig. It will get hard real quick. If you get to the point where your just not having fun anymore take a break...... It will be fun again after some time.

Yeah, I made that mistake a few years ago. Sold my FJ40. It wasn't the best trail rig, but it was starting to get there. Found myself more and more taking my fullsize truck exploring the west desert, and taking ATVs to Moab. Then it hit me; I need a rock crawler. So, here I am three years later with my garage full of parts again and waiting to have enough money to finish my truck. Once you're are hooked, your hooked.

a hair cut and a shower LOL Whats that???
This is great I am the scape goat.

Hey whats really scary... B has a point. at the rodeo there was about 5-7 rigs that "hung out" all day and up to the booring snake for a run. We were all sober but runnin the smack ALOT. Even brandon said that he had a great time. Hell I still don't know how the term "you drive like a canadian... you kunuck" means. But thats B running smack. I'm on this way bad line on the steps at the snake, just about on my drivers side... Shawn starts shaking the truck asking how much my calendars are now :D he coulda EASILY tipped me. I was laughing so hard it was difficult to drive.

That was a fun day.

Here is another... easter went to 5-mile away from people.... went out at night and looked at the stars, watched the clouds roll in right on camp (literally ON camp) and listened to the silence only nature can have at night. (touching eh :D )

That was fun.

BTW I still love to scare my girlfriend..... LOL "don't climb that with me in it.... then I do..... :p

I leave my front ARB off unless I can't make the line. I have been surprised at what 3WD can make it up personally. I still have a lot to learn, but for me and my local friends, it's all about getting away for the weekend and meeting new people. Of coarse a few beers heer and there doesn't hurt.

I'm glad you guys had fun at the U4 Off Rodeo in January. We had a lot of fun putting it on and setting up the course.

Some of the most fun I ever had was running my jeep when it was 90% stock in Moab with all the friends, we had a blast.

Anyway, if you think the Off Rodeo was fun and are looking for something different then be sure to enter the UTAH TROPHY CHALLENGE!!! This event is going to be the first of it's kind in the state. If you are ready for a fresh new type of event then this is for you. Combine shooting, wheeling, canoeing, navigation/GPS, winch hills, rockcrawling, and more and you have a Trophy Challenge.

More info to come.

Yah, what he said. I couldn't make it up launching pad or whatever its called. And I am just building it from there. I find a ton of fun in building on a teenagers budget. Try that where you have to build your own stuf rather than buying it. Ohh yah and I like to bargain. woot
