they took 4 stock toyotas up that trail in october.

Kinda difficult to compare stock RC's to stock Toy's though, at least in my opinion. But from what I've heard you should be able to have plenty of fun in your Dodge down there.

Note - I'm not speaking from experience, this years EJS will be my first Moab trip.

What are y'alls opinions as far as lift kits go? According to the lift manufacturers, to fit 35's i've gotta get a 5" lift. Is it worth it to get a suspension lift, or should I just do a body lift? Or should I do both? My goal is a 6" susp. and 4" body, which should I do first so that i can pretty much get by with decent size tires. I probably wont go any bigger than 35's until i get 1 ton axles under it. Does anyone know if the later rc's came with one ton axles that would be a pretty easy swap to do?

I'd just do a 6" susp. lift and trim the body where it needs it.

So, do you want me to answer the poll for a stock Ram Charger, or a Ram Charger with 5" lift, 35" tires, and lockers front and rear? Cause, my answer is gonna be different...

Well, considering that I've wheeled a full size Bronco all over Moab, alot of it when it was stock & not even mine yet, you should be able to get around in a Ram Charger. In fact one of the previous vehicles I did some wheeling in growing up here was a mid 70's Ram Charger.

Since you have little or no experience with the RC I wouldn't be trying to do anything rated 4 or higher. Once you have some Moab experience with it you should be able to do the 4 rated trails & might be able to even do the 4 1/2 rated trails if you're an especially good driver. After you do lift & lockers etc. & get a lot more experience around here you should be able to run any trail you want.

So yes you could successfully wheel a stock RC around here, just be aware of it's limitations.

If this is your first trip to Moab, don't judge Moab by the EJS because you will more than likely be disappointed. You will spend alot of time just sitting and waiting in lines everywhere. it is still worth seeing once though. KENNETH !!

I took my stock expedition up rose garden hill so you should be fine with a stock RC

John

A stock rc should do better than an expidition, I sure hope anyways, no offense of course, but what is that trail rated?

my buddy has an 80's ramcharger with a 4" lift and 33's. He could fit way bigger than 33's on it as is, and if he removed some of the acreage of sheetmetal that it has, I bet he could fit 54's on the thing with that much lift.

He did Golden spike just fine, open front and rear (and 32" AT's at the time), but it is a heavy *****.

Mine's not a P/U, but I'm sure i could fit at least 33's on it stock, so why do the lift companies say i need a 5" lift? I would really rather not cut up the body, because it's my daily driver, and even though I wheel it, I don't want it to look like all cut up. Is the suv heavier than the p/u version? I don't know, maybe I'm just a pansy a**, but it's my only vehicle. From what I can tell, most of you guys have 2, 3, or more vehicles. Maybe it's a sentimental thing.

I hear ya. I'm actually not going down there to wheel, just look at some trick rides and see what they're capable of. I'm basically just going for the EJS experience...once my rig is ready I'll go down there to actually do some wheeling.

Beerman, rajncajn (not sure if he's on RME), and myself are going during the last weekend. We aren't bringing our rigs, just Beerman's FSD and tent trailer, and we're staying out of town.

His is a full size, not a PU. Lift companies tell me I need 6" of lift to fit 33's, I run around 5" and run 37's. go with as little lift as you can to fit the tire you want, lift height is your enemy.

Eventually as you wheel the rocks more, you'll start hacking things up a bit more. I used to be afraid to trim things for clearance, now look at my junk.

Yeah, that's what I am POSITIVE will happen as I get body damage and want to modify instead of repair. I am so stoked to go down there in oct., or maybe august, or both though, even though its a ways off still. :greg: It is gonna be sweet. I'll probably end up movin to utah from what I hear about moab... :D
