How Much is a GOAT Worth?

So... Since I bought and finished the Swollen Goat some things have really changed in my life. Mostly two little screaming, puking, pooping, whining, crying kids that I absolutely love to death! Since I love them some so much I want them to enjoy Moab, the snakes and wheeling just as I do.

I am sort of at a crossroads with the Goat. How do the get the three other humans in my family to wheel with me. My wife laughed when I brought up the "ratchet strap the kids to the hood" idea. I guess that's not really an option.

So I have been kicking around the idea of selling the Goat and dumping some more money into the deal and buying a 4 seater. Dumping 4-5K into the Goat and making it a 4 seater. We would have to cut the whole back off to do so. Most people would say keep the Goat and make it a 4 seater. But, there are some things that I would love to change about the Goat so going another route is definitely appetizing.

BUT, before I can make any decisions I need to figure out the money thing first. So, here is the big question;

What is the Goat worth? In case you don't know what the Goat is, here is the build thread.http://www.rme4x4.com/showthread.php?48591-Project-quot-Swollen-Goat-quot-gets-under-way&highlight=SWOLLEN+GOA

Not much has been changed to what you see on the build thread except it now has an Atlas in it, sticky 40 treps and method race wheels with innerair locks and has an UHMW skid from the oil pan to the tcase. The tires only have 5 days in Moab on them. Basically brand spankin' new.

Thanks for the offer but, I am not sure what I want to do yet. In the end I really want to get a lighter car. So, if I end up selling/trading it I think I want a sammy based car or something similar that is small, light and a ow center of gravity.

I've always loved the Swollen Goat! What do you think it's worth, ballpark? You know what you (and Marcus) have into it and have a good idea of the value, IMO.

Lots of time selling something so built like your TJ is worth taking the time and finding the right buyer for the specific vehicle. Here and Pirate are where I'd start, plus KSL. Decide your high price and go from there, you can always lower it.

For a replacement vehicle, how about something like this? IMO it would be cheap & easy, but nowhere near as capable as the solid axle'd Goat... - http://www.rme4x4.com/showthread.php?104152-Tracker-Sidekick-based-beater-ideas

Thanks for the thoughts Greg. I think I would want something a little more capable to keep up with the guys I wheel with. I actually hadn't put a whole lot of thought into selling or re-doing the Goat until this morning. It is still a long ways off and I just wanted to get some opinions before I pitched the new business plan to my wife.

This is actually what really got my gears turning (see what I did there?)

Well, this car and a FB post that Pirate did a few days ago about a turbo'd Sammy build from Arizona.

Not that it matters too much to this rig, but you did see that Herzog's 4-seat buggy is still for sale, right? ;)

I would love to own Shanes car. I didn't contact him for
two reasons;

1. I think he said no trades
2. I don't want to gamble with 25+K in hopes that mine sells for enough to rebuild my savings after that purchase.

If he had any interest in trading and would lower the price some I'd be all over it! But, I don't want to offend him with a low offer because that car is super nice!

So... Between 5 and 20 grand is safe?

If it were me, I'd start higher than $20k. Remind me what it has for axles, lockers, gears, etc. And IIRC is has an Atlas? With the coilovers, cage, wheels & tires, etc, etc... I would start your price around $25k and go from there. Your selling price will probably end up around $22-17k, IMO. Just for comparison, my old TJ has been listed at $30k, but dropped to $28k. - http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/vehicles-trailers-sale/1849649-supercharged-v8-rme-tj.html

If I were you, I would keep what you have and make the changes you need for a 4 seater. You know that vehicle well, IMO it's easier to work with what you know than to get into something totally different and starting all over. I think $5k sounds pretty high for the needed mods, but I'm not sure what you have planned. Looking at the back of the cage, you have plenty of room to push back quite a bit. I would see what adding 18" would look like, changing the cage to be more passenger friendly, etc. A friend with a bender and welder will go a long way, stretching the back 1/2 of the cage and re-working it for a bench seat with room for a different fuel cell (if needed) should be less than $5k.

Deal... But, I will need to buy a bunch of parts from you and Ryan at like 99.9999% off. And by a bunch I mean everything except a chassis.

Perfect. We can probably buy the tubing for the chassis too. Plus set up a college fund for those kids of yours.

Ryan can afford it.

On a serious note, that is an awesome rig! I hope you can figure out what to do with it. I have been debating on whether I should turn my buggy into a 4 seater or just start over.

You guys are way too generous. I hope that's not asking too much?

That is the big debate right there. Use what I have or start over and build EXACTLY what I want. Right now it's looking like the whole car or just the chassis may go up for sale in December some time. It really depends on what my year end bonus looks like. I may be selling it, my truck and trailer and buying a 1973 Honda Civic hatchback depending on the bonus.

When you sell it, make offer. :D

Too much body left... I'm not a crazy driver but I would cry if I put that thing on it's side.

With me being as impatient as I am, that response just made me curl up in the fetal position.

Ill go roll it for you and drop it off at your place
