Hmmm after careful consultation with my memory, and my deeply sleeping wife (not much help as usual, pffft), I think this:

We have only ordered pizza ONCE since we moved to this house in Ought Zero. However, in Salt Lake, we ordered pizza probably once a week, because it was cheap, we were broke, and it was tasty as hell. Or we went to the Pie, which is frickin' excellent.

What is the standard tip policy for delivery people?

Good question  never heard of a "standard" Most people don't even think about it.

We get paid minimum wage (err most do)
We pay our own expenses, ie; Gas, Insurance, vehicle maintanence
Wasatch Valley Pizza (pizza hut) does pay us per delivery. But it's on a scale according to gas prices. Right now its set at 65 cents per delivery. You get charged $1

I deliver to anything from trailer parks to Here Yes I have been in it. I find I get a more constant tipping base from folks in lesser valued living arrangments.

Anyway back to why do people order so much damn pizza?

oohhh google search brought me this....Link

From the link: "Pizza delivery is considered a hazardous job by the US government. They are third most likely to be murdered on the job, right after police officer and taxi driver."

Who knew?

When I am driving around with a lite up sign on my car, I feel its an open invitation for getting my ass kicked. :-\

When I did it 16 years ago, Pizza Hut paid .50 a delivery in Cladwell, ID.
Got better tips driving my 455 Buick than I did when I bought a LeCar.

Sympathy facotr maybe?

I start driving for DOminoes tomorrow.
$.22 a mile, we'll see how that works out for me.
Trying to create fuel (tips) for the day job, and trying to create income to offset the 13,200 a year I pay in Child support.

Hence the screenname? :D

I don't think vehicle is a matter in getting tipped? I either drive the YJ or my 86 Veedub and don't see a difference in getting tipped (although I have been complimented several times on the Jeep, and pulled over once). Personally I think it all stems from the time the phone is answered.

We usually have pizza about 3 times a month. It's one of the foods my older son will eat (the others are chicken nuggets, corn dogs, and quesadilla's). We almost always pick it up though.

The best pizza in the valley is "Sweet Home Chicago" in Draper, hands down. Don't get me wrong i like the Pie, but it's no match.

I used to deliver in Kearns, in 90-91. The tips were pretty good, I once got $50.00 for one stop. The dude was so wasted and said keep the change from a $100.00.

Maybe 2-3 times per year? I try to eat healthier now that I'm lazy.

I usually tip 4-5 bucks. I know how it is to work in a service industry.
