Hurricane Katrina

HOLY CRAAAAAAP!!! This thing sounds like it's gonna be big. On CNN they said there was probably a 50/50 chance that New Orleans will be basically destroyed. Sounds like most of the city will be under at least 20 feet of water, and it will not drain by itself. They'll have to pump it out and it will take weeks or months to pump out the water. So if the buildings don't get destroyed by the wind, they'll be a total loss after they're submerged for a few weeks.

Yeah, that really sucks. There is some great historic buildings there. Some great museums like the WW2 veterans memorial. :(

My mother in law is supposed to fly home Tuesday into New Orleans. Looks like her visit has been extended.

Yup. She'll be staying a while. Don't worry. It'll suck more for her than it will for you. ;)

im, already out. Swampy was planning on staying

id stay for a direct cat 2 or a non direct 3,
4 or 5... fawk no

oh and when they order a voluntary evacuation of NO it is basically the same as a mandatory evacuation. they usually never issue a mandatory evacuation in NO since it would be impossible to get everyone out in less than 72hrs notice

if it is a direct hit i would not be surprised of 30,000+ deaths

mandatory evacuation of NO now declared

hopefully the storm dies down some. right now its at like 160mph with 195mph gusting

they are keeping all the inmates in the NO prisions though (which would also be flooded if this really goes down)
i would be shitting my pants if i was in there

175 sustained, 215 gusting

its still going to be at a cat 1-2 where im evacuated

im a civil engr (work with levee's and such) and i can tell you now we are screwed

I heard awhile back on NPR a prediction on this same case scenerio and it was projected at more like. 40-50,000 deaths? They got what 30,000 right now in the Superdome? Guess only time will tell. Maybe this is part of mother natures Population Control.

I live 4 hours away from New Orleans in Florida, and it is even windy here. Worse than the last tropical storm at least. Lot's of lightning last night and in the A.M. I'm glad it didn't hit here. We just got hammered by Dennis.
