hydro assist problems

So I finally got everything together bled the system. Disocnected the ram everything was turning the same way. Hooked the ram up and a massive leak at the gear box input? I rebuilt the box at the same time I tapped it.

I am going to pull the spool valve but something obviously aint right?? Ideas?

EDIT-
Well the pressure blew out the seals in the spool valve and the adjuster plug? I bought a new rebuild kit, replaced the seals and it did the same thing?? now the spool valve is scored?

Hmmm, thats odd. You're welcome to bring it by and I'll check it out...

BTW, your rebuild kit is probably "PowerCraft" brand. If you still have the box, write down the part number or just bring the box with ya.

Thanks, leave it to me to F-up a realatively easy job ;). I have it in pieces again, it sheared the locator pins?? on the stub shaft and the worm drive. So I need to canabilize another box and then try again...If it is still screwed I will procure another scout box and admit defeat and drop it by. ;)

well I got it (I think). Went to PnP this morning found another box and stole the spool valve assemby and the stub shaft. Used those pieces and it seems to be working. Here is what I believe happened the locator pins for the spool valve were probably sheared the first time I put the box together, my guess is they were not aligned when I tightened down the adjuster plug. So then the spool valve would float with the pressure and allow blow by to the input shaft. :-\

Anyway mad sure everything was aligned and put it all back together bled the system with the wheels in the air. Still hits the bypass with tires at 5lbs on concrete, not sure if this is because I still have some air in the system or if this is normal at that low a PSI?

Thanks again for the offer Von.

was their another Scout at Pick-n-pull? I went half price day and their wasn't one there...
Naw but there were lots of saginaw boxes I just pulled the guts out of a 2wd chev. used the pins and the spool valve from the chev, used the stub shaft, worm drive and everything else from the scout box.

At low psi in the tires I am still bogging out the pump if I am not moving. I am hoping that it is just air in the lines?

Would using a reduced pulley solve you're problem?

Dunno  I thought that when the pump started screaming it was because you had exceeded the max pressure for the pump and the bypass valve was opening? Basically that the pump would not build anymore pressure. I know you can shim the bypass valve spring, to have it produce more pressure, but I have heard that shortens the pump life. This is a brand new pump from PSC steering. So it should be working.

my guess is that I still have air in the system and that is why it is bogging out. Either that or greatly overestimated what the hydro assist should be doing??
