So how much do you figure it would cost to have a shop put hydro assist on my Samurai. Getting tired of the stupid thing :( . has a spool in the front with a Jeep XJ pump to a toyota IFS box. Can't even turn the wheels lock to lock at 10psi in the drive way.

I have to have the box ported then probably RL kit.

If it's to much then I'll probably part my Samurai out or sale it whole. :-\

I paid $250 for the RL kit, and $200 to get my box tapped and rebuilt by RL. I installed it myself though, so I'd say you're gonna be looking at around $600, just a guess though.

My bro just did it on his rig, 250 for the kit, which I don't really recommend. Just buy the ram, get the lines yourself. The ones in the kit are short! Too short for my bro's rig for sure. RL charged $100 to drill and tap, but that's something you can do yourself too. Then just install it yourself, its easy.
You could have it done for between 200-500, depending on what you do yourself.

With a spool up front I dont know if your steering is going to be perfect with hydro assist. It will help a ton though.

You can always go the CalRanch way and buy one of the SLOW tractor rams for 65 bucks. They even have lines there that are a ton cheaper than getting them made at evco. Then you just have to worry about drilling and tapping your box. Just a thought.

When you do it just make sure those lines have plenty of room. My last 2 wheeling trips I have broke off one of my fittings in the box. I thought the first one was my lines where to short (which they were but...) After the second one I started checking stuff. I have a broken motor mount so the motor is actually twisting into my steering box and busting it off. Just make sure there is no way anything can get to your lines. It sucks trying to drive out of a trail with no power steering at all

Good luck!

Kris, If your gonna tap your ifs box yourself, I've got a 1/4" pipe tap you can use. I tapped my own. I've got the instructions you can use too.;)

I don't think I'd tap it myself, don't want to chance screwing it up. I've looked at the Trail Gear assist kit and, they only want $199 for it and, it looks easier to put on if I did it myself. Only thing I didn;t like about the Trail Gear kit is having to weld the bracket to my tierod.

i dont think you have alot of options when it comes to welding it to the tie rod.

trail gear sells an 6 inch and an 8 inch ram kit, worthit comes with bracketry and stuff. you have hysteer i assume?

get the kit and get your box tapped and then call me i can help install the thing

If I do do this I sure hope it works. And dose what i've heard it's suppost to do.

I called RL $595 installed. I've thought about doing it myself and getting the kit from Trail Gear then have RL port my box. Then I'd be in to it $300 then install it myself (well try to install it).

I just put the RL kit on my CJ, and tapped the box ourselves, it wasn't too bad. If you have a saginaw box I can send you the instructions I used, very, very descriptive, with photos. I couldn't be happier with the kit!!!!

The whole reason for the size ram we use is for the speed and streetabilty of the Ram. There is definatly Cheaper bigger slower rams out there. Some of the rams mentioned do not hone there cylanders so longevity becomes an issue. We do have longer lines available at no extra cost so if you need longer ones let me know. Thanks for the recomendations guys!!!

I had RL port my box about 1.5 years ago and it cost me $60... I think. I also purchased their hydro assist kit with the ram and what not. Install was a piece of cake... Mmmmmm cake....... Weld 4 bracketts, two to the tie rod and 2 to the axle and you are done. If you can't weld, or don't feel confident (sp) enough in your welding, I am sure that there are plenty of people on here that would be more than happy to weld them on for you. Heck haul it all to logan and I will weld it on for you.
BTW I also have a full spool in the front axle and even on the slickrock I have little to no trouble turning. I hade the advantage of living in Moab when I made this mod and could compare the before and after steering on Hells revenge. Let me just say that wheeling in moab is much more enjoyable for me now because it is alot less work.
