Hydro Benders

I know some of you guys have built your own hydro benders. I'm thinking about building one and need some info. What did you guys use for your hydro source. Did you buy a motor pump combo or piece the system together? I've looked in northern tool, but don't know what pump would work best with what ram, etc. I know skinner has done it. Anybody else ? I'm not so concerned with bender design, more the hydraulic system.

i'd do a search on pirate, i found a couple of posts where they used a ram from an engine hoist that was air powered it looked pretty cool

I'd look at buying a log splitter from Cal Ranch. I think they are on sale for around $200-250 and you have everything you need. (the only downfall is they are gas powered) I’m not sure if they make an electric model or not. I didn’t look to see how easy it would be to attach an electric motor, but I couldn’t imagine it being too hard. Parts add up, valve- $50-75 pump?? Lines around $100 tank?? Ram $35-100. Look for a snowplow pump, or a lift gate pump, both are 12v but would work.

So is the log splitter the way you went skinner? I'm looking more at something that I could run on 120 ac. So I could run it in my garage with the door closed.I've been all over pirate looking. But have'nt found much info on the specifics on the pump, ram, motor, etc. combo. Maybe I could run out to gods country and look at yours. :D

I used a pump I got from work. (Nobody knew what it was for or why we had it) so I'm not sure what the application was for. I may have a 120v pump for you, I haven't had time to pull it apart and look closer at it. (I know it works, It's running 5 rams just fine right now) Start looking for a log splitter valve They should be around $50 (Ebay or NPS) This is what I was thinking about converting before I found my parts. http://cgi.ebay.com/Ryobi-log-splitter_W0QQitemZ7725804059QQcategoryZ29520QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I haven't looked too closely at it so I'm not 100% sure if It would work or not. Your welcome to come out and take a look at mine if you want, nothing fancy I just made with extra steel that was laying around.

I'm interested in the pump you've got. Let me know how much you want for it. I'm going to piece the parts together cause I'll need about a 30" cylinder. I will just buy one from northern tool and maybe the valve too. The hard part to come up with is the 120 volt pump. The bender isn't gonna be like a jd or pro tools. I'm gonna build one of the ones like on ebay from got trikes.
I'll have to look at yours to see how it all goes together if that would be ok. Thanks for your help so far. :)
