I guess I have a problem.

Today I decided to make a receiver-hitch mounted step to help get into my camper, it's a pretty big gap between the little folding step up to the floor level. Simple enough, just slap something together out of, I dunno, angle iron and rebar....or something. 20 minute job, tops.

Instead of doing that, I spent 2 hours making something that will do exactly the same as a cobbled-together step will do--namely, provide a spot to put your foot as you climb up.

Why do I waste my time? I mean, I like how it turned out and all....but evidently I can't allow myself to keep anything simple. :(

What can I do? Is there a support group or something?

Could be. They are Eviiil, like the Fru-its of the Deviiil.

Here it is in action. A hunk of 3/8" thick diamond plate on top of a 2x2 square riser would have served the same function.

You punched it the wrong way though, that looks like one slippery SOB when it get's wet...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. Beautiful work. Now rip it apart and make it again so the edges point up for more traction. :p

Wanna work on a Blazer?

I carefully considered which way to point the dimples--I put them this way due to the frequency of bare feet on the step, when we're out camping/boating on the beach. I'm hoping the self-draining properties will keep the slipperyness manageable, if not I can add griptape or something.

Griptape is good, and it's cheap, and it works. and it's not harsh on bare feet.

That appears to be the nicest thing on the camper..........

Definitely! It was a free camper, and it's pretty good shape for a free camper--but it's certainly not what you'd call "nice". ;)

I do want a newer/nicer camper in a bad way, but there are plenty of other, higher-priority places my money goes--and I refuse to go into debt for one. One day.......

Get your wife's flour sifter out, sift the cat pooh out of the sand in your sand box, toss it on your step and paint over it again. While your at it, add a hydraulic lift to it so you can step on, push a button and have it lift you to the camper.

I think it is because you just have too much free time now. But why not make a second step so you don't have to use the cheesy plastic step also?
