I read that thread untill it turned into a golfball equal thread...
here is the last basic quote from supergper...
well you have to weld the inner ring to the rim and then there is an outer ring that bolts to the inner ring and the tire gets clamps between the two rings...
HOW DOES IT CLAMP THE TIRE???
I don't see how you can clamp the bead of the tire between two flat pieces of steel and reatain ANY seal for air??? I'm lost. I need some hands on or something... If you tear down again get pics for the stupid....

most of the guys I have seen do the DIY beadlocks beads look like that...thats why I commented:p

skye there really is nothing more than two flat pieces of steel clamping to a piece of rubber...thats why the lower number of bolt the more likely it is to leak...mine are 20 bolts(avalanche locks) and they hold air fine...the rockstomper/rocklogic have 32 bolts and will usaually only leak out of a bad weld...

so you just squish the back of the tire against the front of the inside bead? How does the tire not walk up or down off the inner bead?

see I always assumed the tire still sat against the stock lip of the rim and the rings just made the lip larger. I never got that you only put the inner bead of the tire over the rim lip. then the other just sits on the outside? Gets clamped flat and the BACK of the outside bead is pressed enough to make a seal? still weird but I'm less foggy now :) thanx...

you got it...with that many bolts it holds it pretty tight...and dry rubber is pretty sticky...I had to use dish soap on mine to get them on and they were slidin all over the place...once the soap was off and dried out they suck and held pretty good...

I hear ya...mine were the 10 ply 38" SXs...they can sit with 0 psi with the inside bead off and look like they are full of air...:D:p

If that is the case then how in the he!! do you get a bead over a wider lip? Plus in this pic it seems as though you welded the outer ring to the very outside of the original ring of the rim. Making it not wider than stock. In your case you have a 16" rim and a 16": beedlock. How does that help the bead stay on the tire?
WOW! Ever seen a beadlock all broke down before? :p We are talking WIDER not bigger DIAMETER. Say 15x8" to a 15x10" wheel NOT a 15x8" wheel to an 17x8" wheel. Come on man I trusted you and came to this site ;)

I always thought that the outer ring was larger in diameter also. That would also help your bead... Guess I am a newbie at this :D
