so, i pulled out of my driveway in a hard left turn... pop... i think it was the passenger hub. as i drove up the rode i heard a tapping sound. the exact same sound you'd expect from a roofing nail with the green plastic piece tapping on the road. not so much a ratcheting, or a grinding... but, a very subtle tapping... anyways, i got out to check over things, and noticed that for some damn reason my hubs were locked... wasn't me... i have my suspicions though...

anyways, what damage do you think i did? on the way home it wasn't making much niose at all. should i bother digging into it? i'm awfully lazy...:p

nah, I'd wait till you're on the trail and need 4wd before finding what damage you did. :p (FWIW, you shouldn't hurt your hubs by having them locked in on pavement...you just have more parts spinning is all)

Bye bye birfield!

Unless you have a lock-right in the front, it could have been just the "normal" locker pop.

Check sooon, if it is a broken birf it can bind up your steering if you keep driving on it.

Pull apart asap.

The balls & cage of the broken birf can get lodged behind the bell against the axle housing and bind up your steering in one direction or both. Plus it can scar up your housing beyond feasable repair (ruins the inner axle seal machined surfaces). Could be a hub too, easy to check... 12 bolts & a snap ring....

I drove around for about an hour in the K30, kept hearing this really annoying noise near other cars or between buildings.... finally figured out that my driver's side hub was trying to lock itself LOL

yeah, I felt pretty dumb.

well, i just pulled the front of the hub off... and everything looks fine.. i lifted both tires up of the ground to listen for any grinding, and nothin.... so, i'm gonna drive on it.. i think it might have just been the locker making noise. thanks for your help...

Just do what I do. Turn the radio up.

that's funny that you say that... cause there is this one crazy sound when i press, or release the go petal... and i can't hear it when my windoews are down and the music is up... out of sight... out of mind!!

SO, i locked up the 4wheel drive on some gravel to make sure everything is working fine... and, it is... :)
