I just signed the Utah petition!

So I went to the White House website and I signed the petition for Utah. I know that it'll never happen, but I did want to let the yahoo in the oval office know that I am not pleased with the way things are headed. Maybe if enough people speak up, and keep speaking up, the next four years might not be as bad as I expect them to be.

As you said, this is simply a way to register your displeasure. My hope is that things like this will lead to a more educated electorate in two years time for the next mid-term elections. Though I doubt it.

So, can you help me understand what Utah or any other state that seceded would do afterwards?

Would it still have the country's support? What about army? Would we rely only on the Reserve or how does it work?

Secession will never happen. I do not want to seceed from the union. This petition is just a way of voicing my displeasure for the direction of government. I am hoping that the people in the White House, by their own standard, will address these petitions and explain how what they are doing is going to be good for me, the average Utahn. I do pay very close attention to politics, so I'm pretty sure they aren't even going to try. Utah is a dark red state with very little useful resources for the current dark blue government.

We live in Fly-over Land.

Plus I am looking forward to seeing Carney spin these petitions into something positive during an upcoming briefing.

Yeah I realize it's not a reality. But it made me think about it. What would happen such a case :)

Theoretically, attempt to establish itself as an independent state or member of a new nation state in the vein of what happened in 1861 when the southern states formed the Confederate States of America.
Would it still have the country's support?
No. In all likelihood if secession were possible (legally it’s not possible anymore except in Texas) it would lead to armed conflict between the seceding state(s) and the United States of America.
What about army? Would we rely only on the Reserve or how does it work?
See the above statement. All armed forces of the United States are under oath to protect the United States of America from all threats external and internal. So a new state would have to establish its own military. Using the Civil War as an example again, individual members of the armed forces would have to make the choice of staying within the United States military or joining the secessionist military; effectively becoming a traitor to their nation and their oath.
Secession is an entertaining thing to banter back and forth about, but all state constitutions, save Texas, since the end of the Civil War are written to make it legally impossible to secede again. Now, obviously, if secession were truly to be considered, no one would care about legality.

The issues that make folks consider secession is not rooted in one party. Republicans and Democrats both have ownership in the current state of the Union. The government is spending more than they take in year after year, making promises both foreign and domestic, which they are financially unable to deliver on. They are bailing out private business and picking favorites in the market, at the expense of the taxpayer. Solar, wind and green energy is being funded with taxpayer dollars, with no solid ROI. We are a major funder of the UN, which has created a directive (agenda 21) that is actively in play in the US, which undermines our rights and freedoms, protected under the US Constitution.

Regulation on business continues to increase, individials receiving government assistance is at a record high, the Fed continues to devalue the dollar by printing more money, we are shipping arms to third world countries which are ending up in the hands of those who want to kill us, our leaders have allowed our southern border to become a highway for enemy combatants and terrorist to pass through, good is being called evil and evil is being called good.

Give me 5 more minutes and I can double the list.

All that being said, America is unique. No other nation on Earth enjoys the rights and freedoms that we do.

There are those on the outside who covet this, many who dispise this and many on the inside who are actively engaged in trying to make America like the rest of the world and redistribute what we have, to those who have not.

So basically this would make you a Traitor. I am not at all for what has happened, BUT Obama is the the President of this great Country and as far as I am concerned still deserves some level of respect. WE as a people need to come together to promote change. This bullshit bickering and acting like 5th graders which is what I saw in this past election Is also going on on all social forums is not going to help us as a nation. We all need to pull together as ONE Nation. My.02

If you think that signing the petition makes you a traitor, you have no idea what this country is about nor it's founding principles. It's a failing of the public school system.
