Hi!

I really didnt want to start a new thread for a silly ?

I bought a used winch and I need to install a lug on the end of the positive cable.

I called Napa and they wanted $90 for one of those tools used to smack with a hammer!

I was just going to buy a new positive cable but the auto parts store only have 4 gauge....

Anybody know somebody that has one of those nifty tools?

Edit ### Thanks to Kurt this problem is fixed!!!####

But now that I have it installed, I have this mess!!

I can't even get it through the fairlead!! Should I cut the knot off? The old owner just put a knot to hold the hook! I know it should have a nice little clamp, does anybody know where to get this fixed? Maybe just buy a new wire rope....cant see just buying a synthetic just cause it has a knot in the wire!!

I'm here in Sandy and have the tool, you could do it here real quick.

Sorry I usually don't a chance to check RME again until after working hours.

Blackdog nailed it :D

Well.. I would cut that off and inspect the rest.. then again I wouldn't normally trust a used cable (well unless it was used by me and I know its history)... Cable can be scary if it has been treated poorly.

If the cable is otherwise in good shape, I'm sure Rocky Mountain Wire Rope could crimp a thimble in there for you, as well as Utah Crane and Rigging, and I'm sure others. (Six States cable shop again?)

If you need a new steel cable, I sell new take-off cables for $50 each. (replaced with synthetic on brand-new winches)
