Ever since we moved into our house 4+ years ago, my wife has wanted to paint our front door. So yesterday was the day. As all projects go, it took longer than expected. The original paint was absolutely garbage, and needed to be removed; it peeled like a bad sunburn in some places, and couldn’t even be sanded off in other places. I ended up using a soft flexible ‘finish and blend’ disc on the angle grinder, which took a while, but did the job. I was running out of daylight, so I threw two coats of primer on it, and called it a night.
Today, I go to inspect the progress, and the door looks like absolute trash. The “finish and blend’ discs were apparently aggressive enough to remove a little bit of the fiberglass, and now the once flat door has grooves machined into it. I’ll take the blame for it, as I wasn’t using it the way it was intended. Love and learn. Either way, I’m not pleased. Shy of sanding everything down (again) and fixing it with fiberglass filler, so I have any options on fixing this over the 2x coats of primer? Final color will be yellow.
