Sounds like it worked well for you. When I delivered the step van to Daniel Wy I got 8.5 mpg pretty much mountains the whole way there. That truck and my old trailer were pushing 15k empty and that van weighed 7800# and that thing was tall.

When you started this thread and posted up the numbers I was sure you would be fine but, there is always a little voice in the back of my head that tells me I don't know what I am talking about. I am glad that you and the little woman had a safe trip out and back. Your mileage seems to be about spot on considering your load. The RPM's seemed a little low to me for some reason. Do you have 3.73's or 355's? I would guess 3.55's going off of your RPM's vs. speed.

Is that with the dually (Dodge) or with the Powerjoke.

With the Dodge. I think I averaged 9 in the Superpoopy with the same load

Truck was awesome! All I need is to get my DVD player installed and I will be set!

3.55s if I remember right. Rpms might have been a little higher than 2 but not much

I need new tires. I've been seriously considering moving to a 315 but enjoy the 285s pulling power. The 315 would bump my RPMs down at a given speed, but I'm not sure where I fall on that. Might be worth an experiment.

Marc, I will probably go to 295's or 285's next time, after running 265's, 285's, 295's and now 315's.

Why? More power, better handling (stiffer sidewall) for towing, cheaper, and better mileage. Mine is barely lifted, so that doesn't matter that much, it'll look about the same. There's your experiment.

Cheston, glad to hear it was a good tow...and I'd keep it away from 1300 EGT too. I have to pull my foot out of it on Parley's to keep it below 1300 (it'd go to 1600 easy). I was hoping I'd get to tow the jeep across Nevada late this summer (Rubicon or Dusy) but plans are up in the air.

Congrats Mark!

Post up if it changes you egts at all.

When it comes time for new tires for the dually I want to put some 33" Toyo MTs on it. I know I will need spacers for the rear.

Just got to love a dually with mud tires on it. I have had really really good luck with the Toyos as well. They are even E rated!

I'm very happy with the Toyo MTs. I think I hit 54K with them. I don't care what tire you run, but 54K is pretty decent on a heavy truck like that. Having it be a decent performing tire off road is a bonus with the mileage. The Wrangler Silent Armors have a mileage warranty of 50K and they were in stock (I'm kind of pushed for time nowadays so that made the decision easy).

I can't imagine it changing my EGTs noticeably? MPG, likely though.

Interesting. 3.73's and 285's make my F*rd correctly read 70mph at 2000rpm...stock size tires are 265. 315's have me going 75 when the speedo reads 71-72. (85 at 80 when the tires were new)

I wonder what the overdrive ratio's are...

(what a tangent...)

OD is a .73 and his tire size is a stock 285/75r16

Edit; FWIW Cheston I wouldn't change the tire size it will make it less towable with those loads also I would look into a us gear underdrive. It will give you the best of 3.55 & 4.10 with a true 12 spd and 2 spd reverse. But then I like grand pa trucks.
