Ice fishin'

I haven’t been able to find perch there through the ice for a couple years but the trout are way nicer than I’ve caught in years prior. The elk are always there in the winter, it’s quite a site to see.
We did really well for perch there last year but where we fished last year is almost out of the water.

I feel like we used to find perch anywhere on that lake as long as we hit the bottom but now it seems like the deeper waters are dominated by the trout.

I believe you on the water levels. We had a "scout" camp there this last summer and I couldn't believe how low the water was. I hadn't thought about how that would change ice fishing though...

I'm still just carrying a bucket and my auger out. I keep telling myself I don't need a sled, a tent, sonar, etc, etc. It's hard fighting the need more stuff thought.
Sonar is a big help finding them under the ice, and it feels like I'm blind when my son steals my sonar to go look in another hole. If the fish are on the bottom you don't need one but if they are suspended you'll waste a lot of time finding them.

Does your sonar work through the ice, or do you gotta drill your hole first?
