The one I speak of isn't used to rip on people (well some that TRULY deserve it... think popo) it's more a place to talk about things that you don't want openly available on the internet, because as I'm sure you know Greg, everything in every open forum here is readily available to ANYONE who can type in google or any other search engine.

Think of it as an open to the family PM.

Yeah, that would probably be one side of it... ripping into people would be the other side. There's always going to be 2 extremes. I'm still not sold on the idea.

If its for non vehicle related banter I say go for it a, little bashing for debatable topics should be tolerated but not if its someone asking how to do something on there rig no matter how stupid it sounds. :-\

Most bashing doesn't come from someone asking a tech question. I ask a ton of questions so for one it will be loged into the Search. The problem comes when people come here with Super Ego's and don't know when to say when.

Not sure I'm sold on the idea either. It's just not "fair" to all members, and this site is dedicated to all members in the 4x4 scene.

I'm also concerned that the tech we get from more of the experienced members that have been around for a while will stop flowing in the main forums and end up in this so called "Private" area.

I don't agree here at all. This board is/was built on tech and a doubt that the "Senior Members" want to see that change.

You're probably right... I was just thinking what the cons might be.

It's more a chit chat that you don't want to chat with to everyone.... also I just remembered there is also a "member support" forum and a few others that aren't open to everyone. In the 3 years I've been on that other forum I can only think of a small handful of people who passed the requirements that weren't accepted into the fold.... maybe 5? Most of those were ultimately banned.... some others where given some more time to fit in.....

That game forum is really a tight nit family though.... comes from spending time interacting with each other whether it's in a game or bsing on a voice chat program.

The private sections are also a nice place to post a link for something that you don't want everybody on the www wheezing your bandwidth on

The problems I see are that stuff could spill over from this private forum. Nasty feelings, backbiting, etc. If you rant on someone who later becomes a member of the private forum, it would do nothing but cause problems for those 2 people in the future. I really don't know that I want to promote that, after all the effort that I've made to keep this a family/work friendly place.

It's gonna be more trouble than its worth. Basically word's are gonna get out and why do you need a private area to bash on others when you can use a perfectly good ignore function.

lets see......


1. you start in on something with a vague comment about someone you don't know.

2. some proceed to to jump you for said comment. (yeah, I don't care whether I know you or not.)


3. you then think it should be taken to pm's to save face. when in reality, you should of asked ollie about you vague comment in a pm.

4. then you believe you are being treated unjustly, and lash out at the people that are merely standing up for a friend.

5. don't go looking for it, if you don't want to find it.

I just don't understand why all the sudden everybody has to like everybody. Its like life you got a problem express it and get past it.

Honestly I believe there is more of a problem with the newbie's trying to flex there muscle and trying to fit in. fiting in is good BUT you are not going to come to a team and be a first stringer off the bat.

Half these guys (and gals) don't even bother to feel out there profile. I mean hell if I want to deal with a total stranger I'll just pick up the white pages and dial random numbers.

you want to be part of it then learn how to adapt.

That's just it, when you express the problem it seems to esculate to a larger problem. If people don't know you, and you tease them or voice your opinion they get all worked up. Hell, I know you and look how worked up you got (just an example).

I thought it was a good Iidea Marc, but I guess the powers at be think other wise. Keep thinking, one day your thoughts might make it some where.
