An M38A1 should not have a straight 6 in it...I'm guessing that description is wrong.

The amubulance is intriguing.

that would be a 67-69 Kaiser Jeep M725. First gen Dana 60/70, 5.87:1 gears. Drive flanges front and rear, which can act as winches(!!! with those shafts?*shudder). The engine is a Tornado OHC 6cyl, which commonly suffered from either stretching of the very long timing chain, or oil starvation to the rear cam bearings, which were last to be oiled. Kaiser had stopped using these engines in their civilian vehicles. The spark plug wires are military screw-on style. :D

If anyone snags that ambulance, I have some parts left.

I'm actually considering picking it up and cleaning it up a bit. The I'll do my company logo on it and use it for my tools. That way I wouldn't have to tow a trailer everyday. With that low of miles is the motor fine or can a 360 bolt in? How's the trans and t-case Tacoma?

Those motors are a crap shoot. The T-case has a nasty tendency to heat up, it is not a through-output case, it's offset to the passenger side. Also, 5:87's give you a sweet top speed of about 55, and it will be HOWLING. The rims are are sort of a split-rim deal, and they have huge drums that cost about $90 a wheel to reshoe. No one makes replacement pads for them so you have to have them relined.

That said, other axles bolt in pretty easily, and you can bolt newer engines in. The bellhousing will not bolt to anything else, so you'll need to deal with that too.

i know people have stuffed a 4bt and even a 6bt between the stock framerails, but then you still have to do the rest of the drivetrain to stand up to the abuse that either of those power plants will be dishing out

4bts fit easily, and absolutely suck w/the stock gear ratio and no OD. The trans and t-case would hold up just fine, but it's easier and cheaper to just upgrade the trans/t-case at the same time. The NP200 that came in them then isn't a horrible case, just heavy and heats up after highway use.

6bts just barely fit in there-- the FSJ front end isn't really all that big. 454's fill up the entire engine bay too. :D
See the latest Petersens w/the Cummins powered Grand Wagoneer on the cover... I met those guys at the Carquest in Moab, and they had a heck of time stuffing it in there, and it looks like it. :D

I've spent several grand on stuff from that website. Mostly on old PC's and Mac's. I try not to look at what they have anymore after buying 250' of used vinyl fence for $1600 that ended up being too poor of condition to use for us:sick:
