Put your compressor outside, and run a pipe through the wall, then it is really quiet.
A small roof over it will protect it from the elements.

Bathroom, divided area for dirty work, loft, natural light, compressor outside, covered metal rack on outside (20' sticks eat up wall space)

30 x 40 shrinks fast with tools and rigs. Its nice to have about 6-8 feet all the way around a rig when working on it, at least the sides. That means one project rig can easily take up half the 30 x 40.

Draw it out on graph paper, then start measuring the rigs, tools, tables, storage, etc that you want in there. It fills up quick.

my shop is 40 by 50 feet and it will fit 3 rigs, some motorcycles, and my bender, 12foot long work bench, welder, drill press, and other random things and storage stuff and i have plenty of room to move around and do stuff and all rigs if necassary
I cant imagine going any smaller than that but it would be more money. I still think its worth it if you can pay for it and have the room. Also i have 3 sky lights and i love them for sure get sky lights. I can attest to haveing the compressor outside i hate the noise when it turns on

I would have to have at least 12 foot ceilings on a shop that size. I have been spoiled with vehicle lifts :).
I am doing a small 20x26 at my house( the pad is already poured) I am going to do a bonus truss when i finally get the rest of the money to complete.

Plan for a hoist on a boom or jib crane. I built a small one in my garage using shit I had laying around and an atv winch. I used it to lift many things in and out of my loft including half ton axles, two at a time.

Have you thought of using asphalt for the floor? I have no idea on cost.

i would love to have a shop and would use it every day,

mine would defently have the compressor out side, a 10k vehicle hoist, tons of lighting and out lets, along with natural gas for heat. im actually looking into pre fabed metal arch buildings, buddy of mine is putting one up and it looks nice.
