Illegal to text on your cell phone while driving....

What's RME's thought's on this law that is waiting to be signed in by the Gov? Personally, I think that it's a waste of legislation, manpower, unenforceable, etc. I read through some comment's on an article on KSL and it seems that everyone is under the impression that all bad driving is only related to people texing, which is BS.

Anyway.......thoughts?

EDIT: I'm at work and bored, entertainment.

I think it's about time. If it's proven that someone is texting while driving (very easily enforceable BTW) then they should be punished. I'm tired of driving next to or behind some jackass that's sitting there texting on their phone. Even though it obviously won;t stop everyone from doing it, if it stops a small percentage for fear of getting caught, then it's money/time well spent.

I think it's a good thing. If someone texting causes an accident, they can be cited. It'd be kind of a he said/she said thing, but people are F**KING IDIOTS when they text while driving. Makes it hard to spot the inebriated people on the roads.

Cell phone records are easy to obtain with a subpoena. We have a whole department dedicated to subpoena compliance. We can tell to the second when texts are sent and received. It's fairly easy to show that it's a contributing factor to an accident. It is quite distracting too.

I think it's a good thing too... I hate when people do it. Makes already bad drivers even worse.

Now all they need to do is to figure out some way to remove all the crazy old people from the road. Some of them are even worse than the texters!

Is it @sshole of me to "snuggle" with my pickup towards knuckleheads texting? I like them to realize how crappy they are driving.

I took a picture of you with my cell phone and e-mailed it to the UHP when I was behind you and I was legal because no texting was involved

Good thing I sent out a text doing 70 on I-15 tonight to friends stating, "Breaking the law....texting and driving!"

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I will admit, yes I do it, but on the contrary, I can see the reason why it is a good idea (already stated several times by many here)

Well.. I'll just go ahead and disagree, because there are already laws against crappy driving. Enforce those laws, they already cover the behavior (swerving, erratic speeds, etc) that this new law proposes to criminalize.

But but but......this is about texting!

I think that people have definitely FAILED to realize, like you said, there are already laws that cover the problems that people cite concerning cell phone's.

But lets make another law just to cover it, just in case.

Is it just me or are there a ton of wrecked cars out there driving around? Maybe that's just me noticing. But it seems that driving is getting worse. I text occasionally but as a pretty good driver I feel challenged to do both well. My friend hit another car while texting and never touched the brakes, never saw it coming.

My boss uses his laptop while driving. In his lap.

I was in Albuquerque last year and was surprised how good the drivers were there. They seemed to be paying attention and more courteous. I'm not saying this is why (but think it is) but about have way into my stay I found out it is against the law to use cel phones while driving there. Since then I have been all for that law to get passed. Yes there are a few talented ones that can text and drive, talk and drive...even drink and drive, the majority can't. Every time I come up on someone weaving around in their lane or driving 10 mph under the speed limit I can bet that person is talking on a cel phone. I consider myself a very defensive, capable driver but you will rarely if ever see me on the phone while driving and if you do it is less then a 10-20 sec conversation telling the person to hold on while I pull over or that I will call them back. I find if I talk on my cel phone and then think back to what was happening while I was driving when talking on it I can't remember...I was just like countless other drivers following the bumper in front of me. I don't want to be that type of driver. I want to be the type of driver that drive defensively...knows the vehicles around him at all times and plan escape routes if something were to happen. I think it is much safer to let it go to voice mail or pull over and talk if I'm expecting a call I want to take.

Jest of it is...I'm all for it and more.
