Blue Zone finally came and installed my wireless internet. So far it seems good. I'm going to start with the lowest speed and work my way up if I find I need it. 256k up/down. I really just use it to surf web pages and connect the Tivo. I don't download much or use it for gaming. For $16 bucks a month you can't really beat it. I can double the speed for $4 bucks more, and quadruple it for $14 more. It's nice to be connected again. :)

I've been using Netzero this last year and, it's about up. I've been thinking about changing to something else. Wonder if it's any faster then Netzero?

Breakdown on cost would be good.

Eh, Netzero is dialup, isn't it? That would be 50k.

Blue Zone is:

$15.99 for 256k up/down
$19.99 for 512k up/down
$29.99 for 1meg up/down

You can rent the antenna for $4 per month, or buy it for $150
There is a $25 activation fee.
They may charge you for installation but they gave that to me for free. Took about two weeks to get them to install it.

Everything is faster than netzero, peoplepc and aol dialup...

The scary thing with Blue Zone and the like is that they have transfer limits.

Yup, it's not the ISP for you, or Supergper, or anyone else who downloads massive amounts of fileage. I really just surf the web, I'm not worried about the transfer limits.

Got a break down on all the costs? I like that price.

I'm using it also, its really the only option in my neighborhood unless you spend $100 or more a month for Microwave or Directway. I just wish I had bought the equipment in the first place ($4/month vs $200) since I have had it long enough to have paid for it now:-\

oops, too slow, price on the equipment has come down since I got mine

Not necessarily. The equipment you get will vary depending on the signal strength at your location. There are bigger antennas if you are further away from the tower. I'm fairly close and can get the less expensive antenna. You may be further away. My next door neighbor actually has a longer range antenna than I do. They upgraded the tower since he put his in, so I don't need the big monster one. ;)

256 Kbps $ 15.95 (256Kb/s Up & 256Kb/s Down, 4GB/Month)
512 Kbps $ 19.95 (512Kb/s Up & 512Kb/s Down, 6GB/Month)
1 Mbps $ 29.95 (1Mb/s Up & 1Mb/s Down, 10GB/Month)

Looks like they have bandwidth limitations, just in case noone caught that.

Ouch, lower than I thought they would be. I've been known to do 6GB/day, day after day. That's on DSL, it was closer to 10 when I was on cable.

They've actually upped those, it used to be 1GB for the month on their lowest plan

Blue Zone is a great low cost alternative for those that just do regular internet and email. The biggest downside besides their transfer limits is the technology is based on bursts rather than sustained speeds, much like satellite. I don't know how the latency is but I wouldn't plan to play any games. :hickey: I've thought about getting Blue Zone installed at my new house as a secondary backup connection. With my new job if soemthing goes down at my work I need to be able to get access and if my connection is down then I get to haul my ass in there at all hours of the night, a backup would be nice :p
