So, what's the latest thing?

Brakes on the Landcruiser, one of the calipers got stuck and ate into the rotor. So, I'm replacing brakes on the Cruiser.

This is of course after removing the recently installed NAPA starter. Even now the starter that I rebuilt isn't 100%. For some reason every great now & again it won't turn over. Only happens to Catherine though, starts every time for me. And while I'm doing the brakes on it, I see that the water pump is steadily leaking. :-\

While I was in Moab for Moab Mash the starter on the Dodge was having issues. It wasn't catching every time and quickly got worse. I bought a starter in Moab in case it wouldn't start at all. I limped the truck home, pulled it in the garage and find that all 3 of the starter bolts had backed out 3/4" . Cleaned the bolts, applied Loctite and put them back in. And now the it seems the synchro for 3rd gear has gone out.

I've been spending a lot of time just keeping our vehicles up & moving and it's getting old. Those things listed are just the beginning too, there's plenty more. I'm starting to think that paying the price for a new vehicle isn't a bad idea. Or just get something that doesn't have a sh!t-ton of miles.

Look at it this way, if you don't do it you can pay someone 10X more than the part costs to have them fix it.

I completely understand, I have four cars and have been working on my cruiser every weekend since Memorial Day.

I'm just glad every time something breaks on one of my cars that I can fix it.

I hate working on cars. I've had reasonably good luck this year however. The only thing that went wrong was something expensive that I couldn't fix on my own anyway....so I guess maybe my luck wasn't that good.

I have a friend who was actually HAPPY to almost pay $350 to have front brake pads replaced.

I can't imagine what kind of repair bills I would have had to pay over the years... if I ever took anything to a shop.

I did once pay $25 to have an Escort starter changed, but I was lazy and it was a PITA.
