Invisible customer

This happened to me years ago. I went into Barrett builders in AF to buy a tool. The BYU game was on and the owner and an employee were at the counter watching it. I set my purchase on the counter and waited five minutes before one of them helped me ring it up. The guys dad had built the business from scratch. My dad being a contractor had bought thousands of dollars of lumber from the him over the years. I was totally disgusted. Never bought another thing from them. He was out of business in another year. Take care of the customer or they will go elsewhere. I know I will never buy so much as a twenty two shell from Gunnies in Orem. Guy who owns its kid treated me like sh-t one day. I'll never go back to be treated that way again!

As I read that it brought to mind a very similar experience at likely the same store, now I mostly shop online or ksl and find vendors who substantially beat the prices of that store. But I did have a good experience with Fat Bob's in Ogden and I let them know it, this lead to a discussion about said previous store and they hear the same feedback from a lot of folks. Interesting how a simple purchase of a single shock led to a 20 minute chat about a few trails, they even ignored a ringing phone to help me out. To top off a good experience, they even beat the best online price I found. Their business practices are good enough that they just opened a second location. So there are still a few good shops around who care.

Had the same exact experience with Fat Bob's. I've also had the bad experience with Autozone and a few other stores and refuse to go back there due to poor CS and a terrible knowledge base. When I go to NAPA on the other hand they know my name, they always welcome me and usually have a good idea about what I'm working on, sometimes it's kind of a special request and it makes things a little interesting but they don't quit until they have exhausted every effort to help me find what it is I'm looking for. NAPA is also one of the few parts stores that still maintains their books on the shelf so they don't have to rely solely on their computer which I've found to be wrong too many times.

Give me a bad experience at a store in person a few times and you'll lose my buisiness especially if you are a large company. A locally owned shop will usually get more forgiveness from me, the large companies don't need my buisiness enough for me to deal with poor CS.

You aren't obnoxious enough. If you need a part swivel the monitor and keyboard around and start looking. If you don't get a reaction walk back and find it on the shelf in the back, if you still haven't got help scan the item, figure out how to kick the drawer open, if they aren't reacting to an open drawer, the store has larger problems and you ought to pick up there phone and call authorities that someone is robbing the joint, leave everything and walk out and find a real store.

: Hello, can I help you?
Vivian: I was in here yesterday, you wouldn't wait on me.
Shop assistant: Oh.
Vivian: You people work on commission, right?
Shop assistant: Yeah.
Vivian: Big mistake. Big. Huge. I have to go shopping now.

Oh I like that! That pretty much sums it up. I'll take my money elsewhere thank you. You treated me like crap before you realized I might have been a loyal customer who would continue to spend big money with you!

I'm pretty sure the owner will get a chance to see the email, and then if nothing comes of it then the shop will be named.

But, have you looked at his "project"?

This happened to me at Lowes about an hour ago. I walked in and found 2 guys standing talking.I interrupted the conversation and asked where I would find a fridge light? Isle 1 he answered. So I walked down to isle one. Took me about five minutes to find the right light. I walked back the way I came saw two other guys talking half way down the isle talking to each other. Few more isles say the same two that I talked to still chatting it up. Now they were midway down the isle still talking. I can only assume that they did not want to hang out at the end of the isle so that the conversation did not get interrupted again. I think I will call management tomorrow. I know if I do something that someone does not like I want to know about it so that I can fix the problem.

I am always on the lookout for a good sandwich shop. A few weeks ago I went into Gondolfos in Provo and the dingy girl behind the counter assembled my Rueben then put it in the microwave it was inedible! I actually feel bad for whoever invested good money to open that shop just so a couple of lazy slobs could run the place into the ground. Guess I should have known something was wrong being one of two customers in the place at one in the afternoon. I guess I should try to contact the owner and tell him instead of venting on here but I just do not see good customer service very often any more. When I worked in retail the customer was always right and we knocked our selves out to make sure they always left happy.

This is exactly why even though I get paid only $8 an hour to be a lot tech to detail cars as they are sold I will walk the dealership when I am not currently doing anything and will ask all the customers that I can find if they would like their car run through our car wash and if I see them go on a test drive while I have their car I will clean the inside of it as well. I dont see how sitting down at your job and not making every effort to provide good service to your customers can help you to keep your job or show your current or future employers that you are willing and capable to move up the ladder to a better job.

It really ticks me off when I see the other lot techs that I work with sit on their buts and text all the time when their is work to be done and also just move as slow as they can at every task that they are given. They act as though it is their first job. Maybe its just because im 27, have a wife and son, and have held many jobs since I was 15(most of which have been in retail). If you happen to stop at Willey Honda wed, fri, or sat nights and want your car run through the wash ask for the lot tech Brandon and I will come out and run your car through the wash.
